Hi, I am so a newbie in xvid to vcd conversion. i followed the conversion instruction posted on Guides. The movie i'm dealing with has ac3 audio type. Thus, according to the instructon i need VirtualDubMod to separate the audio file from the.avi file. i downloaded VirtualDubMod and just when i opened the .avi file, it gives me this error.

VirtualDub Error
Couldn't locate decompression for forma 'XVID'

btw, i'm running on Windows XP

What do i need? and how do i get it?
Please help!

thanks

oh yeah, this is also included in the error message

VirtualDub requires a Video For Windows (VFW) compatible codec to decompress Video. DirectShow codecs, such as those used by Windows Media Player, are not suitable

Sounds like you need the xvid codec installed.

I do have xvid codec installed. Here are the codecs I have:
XviD MPEG-4 Video Decoder
AC3Filter

and the movie plays well with Windows Media Player

is that the right xvid codec i need?

thx again

I would think so, I was getting the same error the other day and then I installed it and was able to work in that program with no problems. Just curious, but do you also have a DivX codec installed or try viewing the file in AVI codec for any odd signs or formats. If you were missing a required codec, AVI codec should say unsupported or something like that.

Here is the link for AVI Codec

http://avicodec.duby.info/

It will give you useful information about the video and audio streams in your file, if you see one that is 'unsupported', then you might be missing the correct codec.

I downloaded AVIcoded, looks like its sumthing like GSpot =)
Everything looks fine, both video and audio are supported, no sign of error or anything.

What seems to be the problem?

Thanks a lot for the info ;)
