I have a dvd-rw backup that made using DVD-shrink. When I try to copy it, I alwasy get an error message. In dvd-dhrink I get a Data error (cyclic redundancy check). It always freezes at 40%. I tried to rip it to my HD using DVD Devrypter but that errors out too. I even tried using neros DVD copy but it also gives me errors.

How can I back up my DVD backup????

There's no need to use Shrink again - just do a disc to disc copy with whatever burning app you use.

CRC errors on a disc mean it's either dirty/scratched or your burn methods, media or both were poor and there are corrupt files on the disc as a result.

SudenRush,

9 out of 10 times it's your media -

1. Cheap media skips, freezes, fuzzes, pixelats, refuses to be recognized, partially jams and of course, our good old standby, either doesn?t burn or doesn?t play at all :-(

Cheap media is great for text, Data, Spreadsheets, .Jpg and .Gif pictures and is good even for MP3 music BUT for DVD backups - BLAaaaaaT! It SUCKTH in an extremely Big-th way !

2. A top grade media is needed for DVD reproduction !
Ritek G04's or Verbatim are what we?re looking for OR any media boasting ?Advanced AZO Metal Dye?, this indicates a superior dye application, while they are a bit ?pricey? they are acceptable.

Prices online from Meritline.com have gotten Ritek G04 to down around a dollar a disc -
Question - If you make coasters out of 3 cheap discs and good copies from 3 Verbatim discs or 3 Ritek G04 discs - which ones then are too expensive ?

It should take care of your errors but, no matter how you slice it, it doesn't hurt to use the best :-)

Damn,

Hate to hear about Memorex. I recently bought a 100 pack of DVD-R's of Memorex. I also have been using out of a 25 pack of Memorex DVD-RW's. I figure that I will reuse the RW's after my son gets older and I don't need "Bob the Builder" or "Thomas the Train" anymore.

I need to get a pack of Ritek for my Concert DVD Backups. Where are they a buck each?

I have used FugiFilm and TDK already, how do they rate with you guys/gals?

Memorex as an example, has posted figures as high as 50% coasters, not what I would call an impressive record -

1. Cheap media skips, freezes, fuzzes, pixelats, refuses to be recognized, partially jams and of course, our good old standby, either doesn?t burn or doesn?t play at all :-(

Remember, Memorex, Fuji, TDK, Orange Pack and others are good for your MP3 music, picture archives, Spread sheets, Data and your text backups and archives, they just don?t work well for DVD backups.
