I am using dvdx copy platinum 4.0.38. I was using v3.2.1.
With both, I can not copy Toy Story 2. I keep getting the message "encrypted data".
So far, this is the only dvd I have had this problem with. Can anyone tell me how I can get rid of this problem?
Unless someone knows where I could get the tdf files for this movie.
I would appreciate anyone's help. Except for this problem, I have been very happy with this program. I want to keep the special features, deleted scenes, etc., so this program is just fine.
I am not the smartest when it comes to this stuff, so any help will be gladly accepted.
Thanks

Well, if DVD X Copy refuses to copy, just use another program. DVD Shrink for instance (freeware). It will allow you to keep the menus and the extras. I had no problem to copy Toy Story 2 with Shrink.

For a full-disc backup, have a look at http://www.dvdshrink.info/fulldisk_basic.php

I downloaed DVD Shrink, installed it, went to the webpage for whole movie, and it failed.
I got the message
"Failed to read file "G:/"
Copy protection error- The read failed because the sector is encrypted"
So, as you see, I am still getting the encrypted message.
What can be the problem, do you know?

OK. That DVD wants the war. Let's try with DVD Decrypter. See those guides (the first one is the easiest):

http://www.thescrapyard.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/files/video/Using%20DVDDecrypter.htm
http://www.doom9.org/index.html?/descrambling-guides.htm

Once you have copied the movie files to your hard disk (if you manage to do so...) launch DVD Shrink, click on the "Open Files" button and select the folder where Decrypter copied the files.

DVD Decrypter is perfect at ripping/unencrypting encrypted DVD's , your comment makes no sense !! (this meaning that DVD Decrypter works fine for everyone else & maybe it's your hardware/PC spec that might be the problem)

You can keep DTS audio in DVD Shrink if you wish , dont comment without knowing how the software properly works in future please... it's not helpful (thanks)

This is for daba!
I don't know who those others are, but I just finished using DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink. It works great! It did the entire Toy Story 2 disc.
It took longer than the other program, but got the job done.
Thanks for you help

I did not have any success with TCM with DVDshrink or DVDXCopyPlatinum. Used DVD decrypter to rip onto hard drive andwas able to use DVDshrink to Reauthor the main movie and burn it to disc.. DVDshrink still would not open the other files besides the main movie even after i ripped them to HDD with DVD Decrypter ..

tell me iM nuts or whatever but I have burned over 500 DVDs and i believe I know what I am doing!!

Ripped and burned 2 other movies just now with DVDshrink and it worked fine just like it always has ... I am telling you something is up with Texas Chain saw Massacre!!!!

So you think its my computer huh??
How bout a suggestion as to what you think it might be. Just so you know I tried the same movie on my Brithers PC today, and the same thing happened. Went and got a different copy of the movie and it worked just fine on my PC with DVD Decrypter and DVDShrink. Xcopy Plat as well.

So if you could please, tell me what you think is wrong wth my PC!!

jeknee117,
You need to try a program that works. You can D/L DVD Shrink and DVDDecrypter and they are light years ahead of Platinum .

Here is my 2 cents on this issue...

I have encountered 'encrypted data' and 'Failed to read file "H:\" The maximum number of secrets that can be stored in a single system has been exceeded' errors with DVD Shrink 3.1.7.6 when reading from external Liteon XJ-HD166S with DS18 over a firewire link.

I never had that problem when reading from internal unit.

Life is what happens to you while you're out doing something else...

Hi all

This might be to late for some of you.
If you are having problems with some dvds, check your region settings, region 1 or 2 etc.
It must be set to the same as the dvd you want to back up.This applies to DVDX & DVD Shrink

Hope that helps

I had some difficulty only when trying to use Shrink to ISO the entire movie. I was able to use decrypter to remove the encryption, and then I used Shrink to re-author the dvd and burned just the movie. Before I did this, Shrink would error out when it would get to the actual movie during the encoding process. I mostly got memory referencing errors, which I am sure is somehow an error on my part. Regardless, I have used shrink and decrypter many many times now, and they both rock!

With respect to the problems with 'Encrypted Data' . I to had problems with backing up some DVD's. From the Xcopy site they gave two possible solutions, a) Make sure that you use your burner for both the 'read' and the 'write' or b) Start the movie, with your player such as WinDVD etc, let it play for a minute or two, then start DVDXcopy, once XCopy has read the disc, close you player and start the read process. Has always seemed to work for me. :P

Everyone keeps forgetting to mention the version your running is the ripper free version meaning it won't copy encrypted dvd's. The fact you keep using other programs to decrpt them will work but that is not what your version of dvdx supports. On the other hand your old 3.21 version would copy encrypted dvds which is why a court ruling a few months ago made 321 studios discontinue this product and any store carrying that version was forced to destroy their copies due to copyright laws. My suggestion, reinstall version 3.21 however you won't get a code from 321 to get it to work so good luck....

For those having some problems, it can be your drive to. I've had similar issues on my computer. I tried to read the disk with my hp dvd rom, and i got errors. so i stuck it in my sony dvd rom, and it read perfectly.

B.S ... You don't need any other programs to work with any XCopy RF versions. All you need is a patch ... 321rip(which has been available since May 23, 2004)

So would every version up to v4.0.3.8(the last ripper version)

Here's a better suggestion if you want to still use XCopy Platinum. E-mail support@321studios.com, give them your current license and password, ask them to issue you a new ripper free license. They should issue you a new license(same password), reset your activations to 10, and allow you to download Platinum or any RF XCopy product.

Once you download and install your RF XCopy product, get 321rip: http://321rip.tripod.com/, this will enable your ripper free version to rip again :) Also XCopy Platinum RF is the only version where the browse button works, so your now able to burn movies(video_ts files) that are saved on you hd.
