i purchsed a external dvd writer nec 8x and it takes up to 1 and half hours to write one dvd and to rip one its takes just as much time, is this normal im using nero the latest version could anyone tell me on who to speed things up would i need a new type of usb cable or ?? is the buffer just too slow and how to fix the problem

What kind of USB port do you have your external device connected to? If you are connected to a USB 1.1 port then thats a problem. The data transfer rate for a USB 1.1 is about 1,500 KB/s. A USB 2.0 is about 60,000 KB/s.
