What camera should I get?

Iv decided to upgrade to Mini DV, but im rather clueless about it all.

Im looking at getting the Canon MV6i for no other reason that it is really really small. I will be using it to record live bands so the smaller the better (security wouldn't dare touch a girls pockets)

I just wanted to know if it would be any good for this type of task. You know, low light, big sound...I fear distortion, decent battery life.

Does anyone sudgest any other models I should check out? My budget is about $1500AUD but id save more if need be.
