Just got a new DVD Writer and I bought DVD X Copy Express upgraded it and got DVD X Copy Express. Please advise what is the best way to copy a movie. DVD X hates the CSS should I use a ripper or Decrypter or DVD shrink

damn shame you didn't ask for advice before splashing out good money on poor software.

download DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter (both can be found via the software tab at the top of the page) both of these wonderous programs are totally free and will do eveything you need to do.

welcome to club......happy burning.....:)

you'll need both......

shrink will rip most movies and then allow you to cut any extra parts you dont want (subtitles, extra features etc)and allow you to have the best qaulity result. it will also compress what you have chosen to burn to a level that will fit on 4.7gb dvd.

the only thing it wont do is burn your dvd. this is where decrypter comes in. it will burn your selected back up to a blank disc for ya.

one other point is that very occasionally shrink will come accross a dvd that it cant rip. in that case you can rip it with decrypter to your hd, open the ripped file with shrink and carry on as normal.

step by step instructions for this can be found via the guides tab at the top of the screen.

i found it better to read the guides at your own pace then if you still have problems.......come back and see if we can help you sort it out other wise you may suffer a total information overload as i did at first.

good luck
viper

ok, and u have shrink? is the DVD on your computer?

if it isent then rip it with shrink eg open up shrink when the DVd is in your Drive and select backup (it will analyze) then you pick what u want and click Backup again lol, i think or Rip

then when that is finished (do you have a burning program? eg Nero, Roxio, pinaccle Etc?

tell me the answers and well go from there

Dean, Gothika is a DVD-9 movie. Take him through DVD Shrink with a guide then, give him the link for either Nero or DVD Decrypter to burn with guides for that :-)

Check the purchase date for XCopy over 2 weeks it should have a ripper - after, DVD43

DB8539, Did you by chance by the software for the website?? www.dvdxcopy If so you can return it and get your full money back. If you bought it at the store I don't know, you may want to send a note to 321studio to see how. I bought the dvdxgame software from them, could only backup one game out of 10 so I returned it to them and got a full return.

Your problems with DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink can be solved by reading the guides written for them available on this forum -

Your problems with XCopy may be solved by:

1.Playing your DVD then opening XCopy.

2. Using good media - information about that available in these threads.

3. Checking XCopy's "Black List", available in this forum.

You'll have to do some work on your own :--)

best buy is usually pretty good at returns. You might want to print out 321studios warranty/return policy and see if best buy would honor it. Try this: http://forum.321studios.com/ <-this is 321's support forum. and try this site as well: http://dvdxcopy.afterdawn.com/

DVD Decrypter will only burn .ISO format so you will want to set DVD Shrink options to that as an output (I dont use Shrink so no doubt someone will tell you where that option is in settings).
And Shrink will put the output file to wherever you asked it to be put & it'll be titled whatever you named it ;-)

P.S. If it truly is a DVD-5 (and under 4.37Gb) then you can just use ISO Read > ISO Write with Decrypter.
