Why couldnt someone just rip the DVD .VOB file to a hdd, and with a s video out just have a movie server ? Would the quality be terrible or ?

Hi there stolen009,

No problem, You HAVE to backup your DVD files to your HD before they are burned. Either in a temp folder or like I do, I leave them on my HD for a month to be sure I don't want another copy and to also watch them on my virtual drive :-). (the maxium I've had is 35 movies on my PC. See my signature.)
If you haven't compressed them they will be exactly like the original -
