if you have a multi system tv(can handle pal&ntsc) your in luck, just encode it to ntscfilm seeing thats ur framerate and set ur tv and dvdplayer accordingly, but if not ur outta luck because with tmpge you must encode it to the sources framerate(ntscfilm to PAL will come out looking like a jerky mess), if you want an encoder that can convert framerates properly you'll have to fork out big bucks, for something like canopus procoder($500) which IMO is not worth the money(better off buying a multi system tv, would work out a hell of a lot cheaper)
as for the 40hr long encode, what kind of cpu have you got?? the faster the cpu the faster the encode and tmpge is surposed to be one of the fastest encoders out there

just a side note, ur cpu shouldnt take as long as that to encode, even if its a 2hr-3hr movie
you might wanna try putting the task priority up to high(when active/when not active, tick both) this may bring the time down a fair bit. Also for motion search precision use high quality instead of highest, this is sure to drop a lot of hours and it wont affect the final products quality, IMO theres no differance in high qualities output than highest qualities output(besides the time differance of course)

alrighty goto the option menu at the top of the screen, then click on task priority and set to high priority when active and also high priority when not active, all this is doing is telling ur cpu to use all its processing power for the encode therefore shortening the time for a successful conversion, so just let it finish encoding because ur cpu is only worried about completeing the encode.
