I made a backup copy of a film for my mate and it played in my standalone dvd at home but it wont play on his, but other films he had backed up worked fine. I am using DVD-R with DVD Shrink. Can someone tell me if it would possibly that only DVD+r works on his or what?

Standalone players can be a very picky breed. Your problem is almost certainly a compatibility issue with his player.

For future reference we don't need to know that you're making them for your mate - talk of piracy will get you in trouble 'round here.
