Okay, before anybody flames this newbie for starting this thread, I DID search for this question. The question is, "Is there a way to convert a DVD to a WMV file IN ONE PASS?".

I did see this question posted in another thread, but it was never answered, and since it was over 2 months old, I wasn't allowed to post to it as a newbie.

OK, now that I've explained why I started this thread, let me get to some more specifics. What I am trying to do is convert backed-up DVD movies to a .WMV file that I can play on my Pocket PC using the included Windows Media Player. It does not play .mpg files. Now I know there are several tools out there that will rip a DVD to .avi or .mpg, then you can take those files and convert to .wmv using windows media encoder. This ends up being very time consuming though, so I was hoping someone might know of a tool that does it in one step?

You say you know a program that can rip DVDs to MPEGS and AVIs? What is(are) the program(s) called? Thank you. It will be very helpful if you give me the names of the programs.

Did you have any success finding the program that will convert dvd tracks to wmv, mpeg,or AVI all in one pass? I'm looking as well.

I don't even know ANY programs that DVD to WMV or MPEG. I currently just burn them to VOB files and watch them with PowerDVD. But I would like to know how to rip DVD to WMV or MPEG. Thanks.

DVDx will convert from DVD to MPEG in one pass. You can find it here:

I haven't tried it yet. I may end up going that way and just use Pocket TV or PocketMVP to watch it on my Pocket PC.

Hiya.. The only program that I know that can rip from a DVD to Mindows Media in ONE pass is Davideo for PPC. It's not free, but it is the easiest that i have used. The quality is OK, and it takes about 45 minutes on my P4 3G to rip a film to a 256 SD card for my MDA2
