I'm trying to backup the movie Cypher. It's in DVD-5 format. I usually use DVD Decrypter or DVD Shrink to backup and neither of these will read the whole disk. Smartripper and DVD X Copy also gives me errors.

The movie did not play when I first tried; it crashed at chapter 12. Then I installed DVD43 (I already had the Patin Couffan installed for some reason) and the movie would then play all the way through but would not rip.

Any ideas? The same happens with NARC BTW.

are you saying the original doesnt paly? or the backup you manged to get after trouble?

The original would play up until chapter 12, then stop/crash depending on which player I used. Windows Media Player would not play the disk at all giving a copywrite error which prompted me to install DVD43. After installing DVD43 the movie would play all the way to the end on all my players, but it still will not decrypt to the hard drive. I've tried cleaning the disc etc. and it hasn't helped. There is no excessive scratching on the disc.

on the whole it seems as though its the dvd! at fault as you have tried lots of apps on it! and got dvd43 (whatever that is?)

ok, can you copy and paste all files from dvd to hard drive? then load files to shrink from HD! try that!

also try decrytor and go to TOOLS/SETTINGS/CSS and change the brute force method! theres a bout 5 to try!

DVD X Rescue sorted it in the end. I've backed up other things with DVD Decrypter today with no problem so I guess it musta been the disc somehow.
