I'm a total newbie. I've been looking through the posts here and at DVDRHelp and I've got myself completely confused.

I need to make clips of movies for a presentation. So, I need to get them from the DVD onto my HD as an MPEG and then I have to be able to crop a portion to be used as an mpeg clip to be played later through our presentation software.

I know this has been discussed but I'm really confused. Can someone dumb it down for me?

I just read my software and it says it can be MPEG 1 or AVI.

use DVD2SVCD, TMPGEnc DVD Source Creator, etc. or something similar. choose SVCD or VCD formats. both will be mpegs....you can then use TMPGEnc to edit them very easily.
