I have just installed a SmartXX chip into my Xbox and all seems to be working ok, when I load up I see the SmartXX OS.

My problem is now that I am trying to flash the bios onto one of the empty banks. I have read through numerous tutorials on the net and most of the ones on xbox-scene but still have no joy!

I just want to be able to play my backed up games! I can?t seem to get the FTP working on my network with the xbox so I am left having to burn the bios files onto dvd. I have wasted so many dvds now that it isn?t even funny 

Ill run through what I am doing and maybe somebody could correct me if im going wrong anywhere!

Ok, so I downloaded a copy of EvoulationX M7. It contains two .BIN files, one with the eject fix and one without. They are both 256Kb.

I open Nero 6 and go to burn DVD. I have the correct settings, i.e. no multisession, finalise dvd, Joliet settings, burn at 4 speed, etc.

Do I need to name the file BIOS.BIN or will it work with the evox_bios_m7.bin? Also do I need to put in a dummy file and if so what size?

When I put it into my Xbox and go to the flash menu the SmartXX OS reads it from CD ROM and then opens the files in the Xbox. I then select the Bin file and flash it to the chip.

This works and I now have a bank which displays the file name, i.e. EvoulationX_bin.bios.

I select it and it reboots loading the normal xbox bios screen and what seems to be the orginal bios! The screen flicker slightly and then goes to the xbox startup screen with the display showing <memory:music:xbox live:settings>

How can I tell if this is the correct bios?

The only thing that I can see that is maybe messing it up is that I possibly didn?t name the bin file correctly. What name do I give to the bin file for the xbox to load it before the orginal bios?

Any replies or solutions would be greatly appreciated as I have spent way to much time on this and it seems as if im going round in circles!

Sorry for the long boring post but this is my last ditch attempt before burning this Xbox!!!

Cheers

Scott

you can use xbtool and xbtool color bios preset maker to change the colors on the "X" logo. Then you'll know if your bios is loading properly (your color instead of green). But, you should really just burn evox to disc and reboot with it in the drive. You cannot ftp with the original dash; it has no ftp client.
So boot evox from disc, ftp into your xbox, copy evox to the appropriate place on c:, and voila, your done.
Don't freak out. It's easy. All this info (and much more) can be found at www.xbox-scene.com
I suggest you start reading up a bit.
