Hi,

I downloaded a movie split into 3 AVI files. Intending to merge/appened them using VirtualDub and then burn to DVD-R.

However I received the error "...the video streams have different data formats".

AVIcodec tells me CD1 is Open Divx v4 whilst CD's 2 & 3 are XVID MPEG-4. (Audio is same across all 3 being AC3 DVM.)

I couldn't work out from other posts what to do. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks

Hiya,

Could I please impose upon you to go and have a look at the Forum Rules.

Of particular interest will be the part on Piracy..

While we are all aware, it is POSSIBLE to download movies from the net, any talk of such cannot be tolerated here...

Sorry..

Try bearing that in mind when you post your questions, as any hint of that and we cannot help you, OK.

Otherwise, I commend you on posting your question in the correct forum, as this is a rarity round here, and it shows some thought on your part ( a reasonable indication that you will fit in, if you understand the rules!)

Have Fun...

That's baloney drchips - how do you know he doesn't have a movie of children's birthday party (a three-part epic)?
To assume anything downloaded must involve sinister piracy (lookout! it's the FBI) is paranoid in the extreme.
I can understand you want to keep the heat off this excellent site, but you know what they say, if you can't take the heat...
How do the rest of you feel about what drchips has said?

Hiya,

The_OGS:

The whole point is:
Any post that could be CONSTRUED AS SUPPORTING PIRACY cannot be tolerated.

It is not what WE who use the forum think that governs the rules, but the risks taken by the forum owners.

I can see from your sig that you are a reasonably well educated guy, but you exhibit the idealistic views of youth..

You obviously understand many things, but you do not understand how LAW works with respect to Copyright Violation (and DMCA).

There is no PROOF required for Copyright Holders to issue a Take-Down Notice to the site owners, they merely have to show that there is SUSPICION.. (and posts that can be construed that way are enough)

In that instance, one is guilty UNTIL proven innocent - and proving innocence (fighting) is EXPENSIVE.

Are YOU prepared for the site to be taken down, and the site owners to be put at financial risk because you don't think that the law is right?

Sure, gamble with YOUR own money and livelihood if you feel that strongly, but idealism that gambles with OTHER PEOPLES livelihoods WITHOUT RISK TO YOUR OWN is not acceptable to the majority here..

Read the posts with the viewpoint of a Lawyer LOOKING for evidence, then see if you agree (bear in mind how twisted lawyers can be).

Sorry, but you are wrong this time..

Peace...

That's all just doubletalk, American legalese mumbo-jumbo.
The specific issue is clear,
"I downloaded a movie split into 3 AVI files"
cannot be CONSTRUED AS SUPPORTING PIRACY any more than my having children can be construed as my being a rapist.
There is no way anyone anywhere would issue any Take-Down Notice based on the above quoted statement, which is innocent in the extreme.
Perhaps you do not agree, but that does NOT make me wrong. Yes lawyers are twisted but most know a winning argument from a hopeless one.
Yes it IS hot in your kitchen...
What do the rest of you (besides drchips) think about this?

The only probable insult I can see is the MCSE in your sig!

An insult is like an alcoholic drink..

It can only effect you IF YOU CHOOSE TO ACCEPT IT..

This is Fun..

Ok guys, this is getting bit silly now, I'm gonna close the thread.

And for the original question -- if you plan to merge them and encode to DVDR/MPEG-2, simply don't join them in AVI format, but rather encode each piece into MPEG-2 and join those clips.
