I'm at a dead end! Please Help!

My new Sony 530a DVD burner seems to work fine (has newest firmware, UDMA 2). Data burns well. I am trying to author DVD-R using mpg video from my Sony mini DVD camcorder. It has Dolby AC3 which is not supported by the Sonic myDVD software, so I am using the "ImageMixer 1.52" software that came with the camcorder.

I have created 3 DVDs but upon re-insertion, explorer detects each one as a CD, and with no files visible. The ImageMixer software has no error reporting that I can see and just asks whether I want another copy made...

Sonic RecordNow will show the contents (Video_TS is on there!) and claims the disk is an "Appendable DVD-R". But our standalone player has problems reading it as well... eventually played them and all data is there, but often gives "bad disk" errors.

I am using Maxell 4x DVD-Rs

Any ideas?
