This may be a stupid question, but I thought DVDs only hold 4.7 GB's of info. So how do the DVDs with movies hold more than that? I think I had found the answer before, but I totally forgot it. So can someone re-enlightend me. I am trying to copy Monsters, Inc. and well it's just too big to copy to a DVD-R, but I dont want to compromise. I want everything on one DVD-R just like the original. There has to be a way. Alright well Later....

You're half right, in that blank DVDs can contain over 4.36 GBs of data, but most new DVDs, especially ones with long films and extra bits just can't fit on that size, so they have dual layers, similar to double density (like the old 1.44 MB floppy becoming 2.88 MB. Before this (and believe me everyone was pissed off with the manufacturers) some suppliers, especially W***** Bros used two sided DVDs, which had to be turned over (bummer!).

There are not dual layer DVD-Rs available yet, so in order to fit your Monsters, you will have to follow the guides and forums in here. They will essentially tell you how to strip down your DVD to the nuts and bolts of what you want and then copy those files across to a blank DVD.

Basically if all you want if the movie, you should be OK.

Bottom line, if you do not want no compromise and you want everything to fit on the DVD-R in perfect DVD quality, it will not be possible.

You will have to sacrifice something.

Paul.

ok, now here is a question.
I ripped 40 days 40 nights almost 8G before, now after run it thorough ifoedit syill 5.5 G obiously will not fit.
Ifoedit showed me (if I´m correct) that the movie comes in letterbox, pan sacn and 16:9)
Is this the reason why still 5.5 G?
If this is the reason, how do I take out letterbos and 16:9?
can you give me some pointers?
Thanks
Gus

I am not aware of those features increasing or decreasing the file size. Some DVD movies simply too long to fit onto standard 4.36 GB DVDs. This is why many movies come on these dual layer DVDs.
