heh heh. Erm..."Adobe CS3." Though I think I have to go to CS4 for windows 7. I think I ran into a problem installing CS3 on "7" last time. CS4 is compatible with vista. I suppose I could try again. I ran CS4 once upon a time, but never on XP, because it wanted SP3. At the time, I frowned at SP3. Now I don't. The last SP3 update went REALLY well.

I thought this was kinda funny! Notice the little junction on the planet. For those of you who have seen the last episode of star trek voyager(endgame), you'll know what I mean by "Transwarp Hub." Thats the first thing that came to mind when I saw that on the planet LOL!

Never ran those versions of photoshop fred. Went straight for the bigdog LOL!

And it would appear that, what ever the problem was before, it has now disappeared with the RC version of Windows 7. I believe it was the beta I tried installing it on before. VERY cool. I didn't even have to tell it any compatibility modes. :D At least Fireworks and Photoshop anyway LOL!

SP3 gave me full resolution support for remote desktop in XP (2560x1600). Sp2 was limited to 1600x1200, eugh.

Hah, the last episode of voyager, I'm only on series 1 of DS9 so far, got a long way to go yet!

I guess im a hypocrite sam LOL! I TOO have some catching up to do. Fact of the matter is, I haven't yet seen all of the Original series of star trek. Which is where this wallpaper comes from. S03E05 "Is There in Truth No Beauty?" It didn't upscale to great, but it looks ok. I used an onOne plugin with photoshop called "Genuine Fractals Pro 6.0" I still haven't perfected using it LOL!

One step at a time, im getting better. This is my latest work in Photoshop CS3. I can't seem to get enough of photoshop LOL! :)
I didn't post my desktop because its a mess right now :( Working on that LOL. But this IS my current wallpaper :D I have it in 2560 X 1600 if anyone is interested. And i'll continue to get better. I will begin submitting on Interfacelift, once I believe my work merits praise, acknowledgment. I'm now open to criticism and suggestions. Please TELL me what more this picture needs to become a masterpiece LOL!

I now know how to render rings on a planet. So please don't suggest that. Im currently attempting that feat! LOL!

I have since changed the brightness of the sun/star. The present wallpaper you see here, resembles a red giant. I was not trying to achieve that nature. Simply a normal sun. It looks much better now.

LOL! I was thinking something like that. Its just not...BUSY enough LOL! Thanks for the input. Im thinking in my next, there will be a neighboring galaxy, a black hole, a space station, a nebulae, etc. The next one will be superior in many ways :D

There are stars in the background, but I think you mean more distant suns, correct?

Hers a little preview of whats to come :D I added a couple more stars, brightened the sun, a ring around the odd planet, an emboss on the earth clouds giving them a more 3 dimensional appearance.

I'm sorry fred. I don't like doing this, But...im pretty shy. Probably the shyest person you'd ever meet. No joke! Im home alone right now, and I can't do a tutorial with CamStudio because I feel funny talking to my computer LOL!

For the last few weeks, ive been waking up, and watching "Photoshop Top Secret" Tutorials. They taught me 90% of what I know. The other 10% was also VERY helpful. Especially with the space scenery. Im including some youtube links to what will help you. But I still strongly recommend the Top Secret tutorials. They're extremely informative. I'm sorry if I lost some respect here. As I said, VERY shy, and VERY self conscious. some/or all of these may contain 2 parts.

making planets - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gazbI-i9Nfg

Make a sun - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1dX4MzK2uXk

Make rings around a planet - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7wfrIjqP6FE

Of course there are multiple ways of making the planets too. I no longer use the method above, because there is a better way to do so. Basically you take a texture map, select a spherical area, use the Spherize tool to give it a more 3d like look, an emboss tool, to give it yet another 3d like look, and bingo.

I will continue to try to speak to my computer LOL! Perhaps if it spoke back... :D

I hope you don't mind my opinion but lose the spike looking things on that sun. It's also too large because you are looking from behind an to the left and down enough that if you were on the earth, it wouldn't get look far enough away. From the perspective of where you are looking from would have less detail because of the reduced size of the sun, but that orangish glow around the sun is perfect. I would also add some dark reddish orange to some of the lighter parts of that sun to show some cool spots as well. In a way, now the sun looks a bit cartoony! The rest of the wallpaper is magnificent and has very good depth and color balance. I want one when it's finished!

Just my observations from what I see when I look at it. I saw one that was called "Collision Between Two Worlds"! The real and the cartoon worlds. The guy that did it, had cartoons on one side and people on the other. I saw cartoons on it that I've never even heard of and I'm 65 and grew up within sight of NYC! The way it was laid out, you didn't know if they were going to fight or join each other. The angles were such that you couldn't tell. Your view is directly looking at a 45 degree intersection from a low perspective and back say the width of a street. Gave great depth to the people and the characters.

Best Regards,
Russ

Well...im not exactly creating OUR universe. Though I do call the pic "Home Sweet Home." Heck, that isn't saturn in the picture. I just call it the odd planet. I do appreciate your input! The arcs from the sun are solar winds/flares. An attempt anyway. I thought it looked pretty cool. I wanted things large, to show the detail involved. :)
