Nephilim,
I notice you're using a PX 708-A. Well I've been reading and searching and it still appears no one is sure if it will handle SafeDisc over ver. 2.9. I know I haven't had any luck (Medal of Honor-Yes, Call of Duty-No). I want 1:1 backups, not emulations. I've tried CDClone and Alcohol 120 (which I like). I can't quite figure out BlindWrite. Anyway, am I spinning my wheels? Should I just go out and buy a LiteOn CD-RW? Whadda ya think?

Hiya,

My copy of COD is identified as SafeDisc 3.10 by A-Ray Scanner and I've backed it up with BlindWrite5 successfully. The copy intalled and played on another PC that has never had any sort of emulation installed and it ran from a Pioneer DVD-ROM. I haven't tried the newest patch for COD so I'm not sure if it ramps up the SafeDisc to a newer version or not which could be a problem.

I did back it up with Alcohol a while back but it was with the my Plextor Premium and I was using the demo which I don't have anymore. I just remember that I used the SafeDisc 2/3 setting.

How are you not able to figure out BlindWrite? I have it and may be able to help you with it.

For COD, I used BlindWrite Tweaker for the following settings:

Under the Basic Settings tab:

Include Autoplay Info
Max Read Speed 24X
Write Speed CD 4X
Handle Read Error: Automatic
Subcodes For Data: Automatic
Subcodes For Audio: Automatic

Under the Topology tab:

Writing Topology: Automatic
Read Topology: Never Extract (topo isn't important for SafeDisc)

I left everything in the Advanced tab default.

Here's a link for BW5 Tweaker if you don't already have it and the very good A-Ray Scanner is there too :)

Post back if I can help any further :)

Just a curiosity.. why the topology extraction for SafeDisc? Is there a reason or do you just do it out of "good practise"?

Nephilim,
Thanks for the prompt response. I'm sorry I couldn't return the courtesy but these nagging little inconveniences keep interrupting my life. You know, sleep, going to work...stuff like that. Anyway. I was able to use Blind Write. I found an old zipped version in my files (Ver. 4.4.0.36) and it opened and ran fine. I then tried Call of Duty. Being new at this I just screwed around with the settings and burned the discs and guess what? The back ups loaded and the GAME RAN! I haven't done anything except set some of the options but it got further than it did 8 coasters ago. I still can't figure out what I'm doing wrong with the newest version of Blind Write. It also seems there is an online database Blind Write uses to inform you of the best settings to burn the game. Nothing came up. Maybe CoD isn't in the database?

Thanks again for the response. And one more thing. I have downloaded the Blind Write Tweak program but I DEFINITELY haven't figured out how to use it. Any suggestions there would be appreciated.

Me? I never do it for SafeDisc (only SecuRom) and advised ROPD not to either :)

Did you get all of your exams over with Preator?

ROPD,

Being that I'm still relatively new to backing up PC games myself, I can't say for sure why BW4 worked and BW5 didn't.

What can't you figure out about Tweaker? I believe it only works for versions 4.9 and up so if you were using it on 4.6 that could explain wht it didn't work. Here's a link to a wealth of info on BW:

Nephilim,

Well for being new you sure seem to have a grasp of the mechanics. I'll check the CdFreak link for more info, seeing as how I'm registered there also. Come to think of it I found I've regestered to a lot of sites ever since I loaned my original disks of Medal of Honor and my prized DVD "Animal House" to my nephew. It's amazing what the Florida sun can do to discs left in the rear deck of a Toyota. But on a positive note, buying the replacements was cheaper than when I purchased them new. Moral: Back up EVERYTHING!

Anyway at least we both know that SafeDisc 2.9+ can be backed up by the Plextor 708-A. I just hope I can remember the settings for the future.

Thanks
