I go to UCSB, and the people here decided to cap download speeds for p2p apps. The net can get up to 800 kb/s, and games like Unreal have like a 50 ping, so everything's cool, but anything like kazaa or morpheus or winmx rarely go above 2-3 kb/s. It's terrible. Is there anything I can change, like the ports that kazaa uses to get around this? Any help would be appreciated.

They probably have the connection automated to slow down when you are connecting to another computer directly (well everything you do requires this but you know what I mean!!).

One thing you could try is find a good (and cheap or FREE is good also) proxy server that you can use. You can setup kazaa to use a proxy easily. This way the campus would'nt know that you're connected to kazaa because its the proxy that connects to it and then sends the data back to you.

The speed wont be as high as it used to be but much higher that 2-3 k/bits/second!!

That'd be good, but i was able to send a file to my friend over direct connect in AIM at full speed. It would appear to be only file sharing apps.

They probably know all the kazaa servers or something. Thats why a proxy server would be a good idea.
