I have used Virtual Dub to create an AVI Files of VOB Files created by SmartRipper. Now I saved the first pass and the second pass. That means at the end I have two AVI files. I was not able to open the first pass AVI. The second pass AVI contains the complete movie.
Now my question: I guess that I have to combine both AVI files. How can I do this?

No, no, no, noo... The first pass file is useless, you can delete it. DivX codec creates it as an instruction for itself in order to complete the 2nd pass.

Thanks a lot!
I tried to watch the AVI file from the second pass. But the movie was sloping / distorted. I guess that the AVI file from the second pass should be a complete movie. Am I wrong?

Yeah, the second AVI is the one that should contain the full movie.

If the second pass contains the complete movie, why the movie is distorted? Do you have an idea what are the reasons for that? I produced the second pass according to the manual published by afterdown ("Copy your DVD into DivX4 fomrat - Guide for 4:3 movies"). The orginal movie is 4:3.
Thanks again for your support.

What do you mean exactly with "distorted"? The 4:3 guide is missing some things that are required in certain cases, including Inverse Telecine for certain region 1 discs (to downgrade the fps from 29.97 to 24fps), etc..

The picture was crooked with an about 45 degrees angle.
It is a region 2 DVD.

I have the exact same problem as Sabine whereby the picture is sloping at a 45 degree angle, using the 2 pass encoding method, with a region 4 disk. I have followed the ripping instructions to the letter.
