I'm sorry if this has been asked before, but I've checked the guides, glossary, and everything related to DVD2AVI in the forum search.

I have had great results using Gordian Knot to rip my DVD to DivX thanks to the guide here, but I'm not interested in that. I want to convert my DVD footage to standard miniDV 720x480 Microsoft AVI format, so I can use it in Adobe Premiere 6.5. I've tried using DivX 5.1.1 encoded footage in Premiere, but it has some problems - Premiere demands to render the imported footage, and then creates a render of pure black. In case anyone is wondering I am not intending to pirate anything, and am merely wanting to create a collage for my own amusement.

I've tried using DVD2AVI's "Save" function that lets me specify to an "uncompressed" file, but it renders a tiny file that it takes about 2ms to generate after I hit "OK". Only Save Project works for me, which is unhelpful since I don't think Gordian Knot has an option to use the codec I want.

What sort of DVD footage are you talking about? If it's commercial footage you won't find any converter that will allow you to then open it in Adobe, for fairly obvious reasons. Of course converting any DVD compliant video files to AVI will mean a drastic loss in AV quality (Divx or Xvid excepted).

I'm not sure what you mean. miniDV avi's have a higher data rate than DivX/Xvid (3.5mb/sec).

It is commercial footage (Japanese DVD containing art from a video game), but since I can make a DivX AVI I don't see why I can't use a different codec. I am seeing some programs that might help me, but I am still in the process of trying them out.

Well I've never heard of formatting back to miniDV - it's usually the other way round, but good luck in your searches.
