Quick question for anyone who can shed some light on this issue. I have a HP DVD300i drive that came with RecordNow. I used the drive letter access stuff to copy numerous data files to a DVD+R disc.

I have had problems ready the data. Now I tried to check with support. Here is the main problem....

The software show RecordNow by Veritas. Clicking the help icon takes me to www.veritas.com.

Looking up RecordNow on google I get RecordNow by StompSoft (www.stompinc.com)!?

Finally, clicking the upgrade button on the RecordNow software takes me to Sonic (www.sonic)!!

Is there something I am missing with the RecordNow software?

That software has been sold several times. Before it was RecordNow it was Prassi Primo. Then Veritas bought Prassi (I believe they licensed RecordNow to Stomp for a while) and eventually sold the software to Sonic. Confusing isn't it?

Thanks, for the info at least I am not crazy.

Any info on why I cannot read a DVD data disc that was created with RecordNow DLA and/or how I might be able to repair the disc if it is damaged?

BTW, I have Windows XP PRo.

Thanks

Sorry. I haven't used any packet writing software since shortly after I got my first CD burner (in 1999). I'd make sure to check whether XP's native packet writing software is enabled.

Right Click on My Computer and click on Manage. When the Computer Management window opens look on the left pane for Services And Applications and click the + next to it. Click on Services and look on the right pane for IMAPI CD-Burning COM Service. That's the Windows version of RecordNow's DLA. Look at the Status and Startup Type columns. It should say Disabled under Startup Type and nothing under Status. If either one of these says something different, right click on the name and select Properties. In the properties window click the Stop button if the Status column said Started and select Disabled from the Startup Type dropdown.

As I said, I don't use that software (or any that gives you access to write to optical media through Explorer) so this is just something to check. Even if that service is started it may not be the problem. Good luck.

The only recordnow software I know that has DLA capabilties is Sonic RecordNow! Deluxe v6.5. Native XP burner doesn't handle DVD writing.

Just because it won't write DVDs doesn't mean it won't affect the drive.
