HI, I have read some of the other articles and I am totally confused. I want to back up some xbox games however I have no idea where to start, what I need etc etc. I have eben able to back up DVD movies without a problem so hopefully it's not much harder. Can anyone run me thru this step by step as I am not the sharpest tool in the shed when it comes to this stuff:):)
Cheers

Go here to find almost anything you could want to know about xbox modding.. http://www.xbox-scene.com/tutorials.php You can also use seamonkeys guides, which are nice also.. http://www.geocities.com/daseamonkey420/main.html . Backing up Xbox games is a little more complicated than DVD movies, but once you learn the process it's very simple. If you need more info come back and ask.. Someone is always glad to help..

Matt

I dont understand what ftp is or iso etc. I live in Australia and do not have a mod chip as yet. I want to know if there is any places in Aus I can buy one from if so what kind, what software I need etc etc. Sorry to be a pain in the ass but we all had to start at the beginning right??

I also live in Ausralia and their are plenty mods here in Melbourne!!! FTP is when you connect your xbox to your computer using a cable and IP addresses. It's pretty confusing. iso is just the compressed file that you will burn!!!

An FTP Client (ftp program) is software that is designed to transfer files back-and-forth between two computers. It needs to be installed on your computer and can only be used with a live connection to the Internet or a home network. You must be able to FTP to your XBOX to mod it.

A ISO is nothing more than a big .ZIP file with a set of "specific" burning instructions embedded into it. When you backup your xbox games you must make a ISO file of your game before you can burn it to DVD. (You also need a DVD burner)

I have no clue about modchips in Australia. You just have to look around . I got mine from a place called Divineo oversea'shttp://www.divineo.co.uk/cgi-bin/div-uk/index.html.. Just look around is all I can tell you. I really like the Xecuter chips. Xenium,Xecuter,Chameleon all make modchips, just to name a few, but I went with the Xecuter line of chips.I had to solder it in also. They now have solderless ones for sale. They didn't have alot of choice's available when I got mine.

You will need the basic's

xbox modchip
DVD burner
A network from PC to XBOX
A new bios(XBOX software)
A new XBOX dashboard(XBOX software)
Some common sense. <---important

I hope this gives you a little better understanding.. Let me know

Matt

You need a hub or router to connect to your computer and again to your xbox. At the back of your xbox you should have a connection which looks like a dial-up internet connection. I'm not sure what the cable is called but atleast now you know what it looks like!!!

You can connect directly from your PC to your XBOX. You will need a extra network card installed on your PC if you dont have a router or hub. You MUST use a RJ-45 "crossover" or "patch" cable when you are not using a router or hub and making a direct connection from your PC to your XBOX.
