Im not using a router. But i am networked by a network card, one in each of my two computers and then my computers are linked by a CAT 5 wire. I have broadband internet and my cable modem is pluged into my computer downstairs by a USB.i have zone alarm pro on each of my computers. I am trying to get bit torrent to work on both computers, but upstairs mainly. I have opened my ports on the xp firewall and on zone alarm pro. How can i make Bit Torrent faster?
Thnx for any help.

uhh, bittorent sucks mad bandwith, i suggest to upgrade to broadband, if you are not already using it. It sucks so much I considered getting a second ISP account, just to use the bandwith sucking torrent programs. Just a thought, what kind of KB/s are u getting?

I guess your suffering from low download speeds but not connection problems, using the original bittorrent client usually isnt a good idea as its upload speed can't be limited, i suggest using a client that can have its upload controled such as bittornado you can find it here http://bittornado.com/ then use it to cap your upload to 10 or 15 kb/s for the length of the download (you will have to try a few settings to find out what works for you) and then unlimited to seed for a while after the download completes. bittornado also has a status icon that tells you if the firewall you have isn't correctly set up. Also dont try and run more than a couple of torrents unless you have an extreme connection i cant usually run more than 2 on mine. and on my previus 512kb/s connection i could only run 1 and keep a decent speed.

another idea is to find a good torrent site that doesnt have a a lot of leachers the biggest problem with it is people arn't willing to upload, some sites like suprnova have slow speeds because they dont have any real restrictions on leaching and its very public, but if you google for some there are a few good forum based sites out there that keep a check on things, I use this type of site and my download speeds are usually maxed out at around 130kb/s on my 1 meg connection.

I am getting about 15KB/s. I've opened my ports on xp firewall and on zone alarm pro but when i test if my ports are open on this site http://btfaq.com/natcheck.pl using the nat check it says:
Fail! Unable to connect. This likely means you need to adjust your port forwarding configuration, or there is no client running on that port.
I have a client running on the port so it cant be that. So how do i forward the ports.
