EVE is an all-in-one tool. For 70 $ you get everything you need for home video:
- capture (to AVI or MPEG files)
- video editing (on AVI or MPEG files)
- MPEG-2 encoding,
- DVD auhoring
- burn
I did not test EVE extensively. I was just curious of the image quality, because EVE contains a limited version of MainConcept's famous MPEG encoder. I compared EVE with NVE (NeroVision Express) and CCE Basic (Cinema Craft Encoder). I used "best quality" setting for EVE and NVE, and 6000 kbps 2-pass CBR for CCE.
NVE gives the less good image. It's quite sharp but movements are jerky and there is a lot of noise in the image.
Then comes EVE. The image is sharp also, movements are less jerky and there is less noise.
CCE gives the best image. It's a bit less sharp, but movements are smoother and there is very little noise. And also there are less artifacts than with NVE or EVE.
Of course this is my personal opinion. It's a matter of taste.
But all in all, EVE seems a promising tool. If you are looking for a cheap, integrated tool for home video, from capture to burn, then you should have a look at MainConcept's product. It's worth a try.
