Hello, Im new to the forum and new to DVD burning and here is my problem.
Im trying to copy a dual layer dvd which has a wide screen and a regular size version of the same movie, i thought i could just copy the widescreen *.vob files from the dvd using DVD Decrypter and then use IfoEdit to create an *.ifo file and then use RecordNow MAX to burn a Video DVD which i could play on my DVD player... however after ripping the .vob files onto my hardrive i realized that the audio for the movie had the directors comentary playing over the regular movie audio... anyone know how to get rid of this directors comentary audio track...? and also is what im describing here possible to do? thanks...?

Yes of course it's possible mate ;-)
I use DVD Decrypter , DVD2One , Nero 6 Ultra myself ... but everyone has their own way eh!
In DVD2One there would be the choice of two title sets the same length (ie; 1:58:45 h/m/s) , of which one is 16:9 [widescreen] and the other 4:3 [fullscreen]
Then in options you can remove unwanted audio + unwanted subs.
You might wanna try DVD Shrink (free) - guide here : http://www.chrismccann.co.uk/dvd_shrink_3.htm

Almost forgot to ask , were you trying to play your DVD back up (copy) in a media player other than a DVD Media player (for instance was you trying Windows Media Player instead of PowerDVD / WinDVD etc) ?

It could be one of the settings in RecordNow Max options perhaps , I'll ask Oriphus though as I'm not a fan of said software (preferring Nero 6)...

Hi there d-a-v-e,
If your x-box is playing the disc then I think your burn is alright - Try rebooting your PC and playing it on your WinDVD4 NOT your WMP.
What ever the result, me thinks it could very well be your media - read on -
1. * Cheap media freezes, skips, stutters, pixelats, partially jams, may be rejected and lest we forget, our old standby, giving you the old just refuses to be recognized routine :-(
Besides "Freezing", "skips" and pixelations, many times you?ll get a ?cyclic redundancy error? or an "I/O error". This message can mean that your discs are scratched or dirty, it can also mean that your burner won?t accept your ?cheap? media :-(
Inexpensive media is great for text, Data, Spreadsheets, .Jpg and .Gif pictures and is good even for MP3 music BUT for DVD backups - BLAaaaaaT! It SUCKTH in an extremely Big-th way !
2. A good grade media is needed for DVD reproduction !
Ritek G04's or Branded Verbatim are what we?re looking for OR any media boasting ?Advanced AZO Metal Dye?, this indicates a superior dye application, while they are sometimes a bit ?pricey? they are acceptable.
Prices online from Meritline.com have gotten Ritek G04 down below a dollar a disc -
Question - If you make coasters out of 3 cheap discs and good copies from 3 Branded Verbatim discs or 3 Ritek G04 discs - which ones then will you say are too expensive ? The 3 ?Cheapo?s with no movie backup OR , the 3 recommended discs with a perfect backup on each disc ?
Bear in mind, Memorex, Fuji, Sony, TDK, Orange Pack and others are quite good for your MP3 music, picture archives, Spread sheets, Data and your text backups and archives, they just don?t work well for DVD backups.
Remember, for DVD backups, purchasing inexpensive media is a gamble, some people win, the majority of people lose, varying amounts but, they still lose :-(
Let's try the right media for the job - just buy a 5 pack, that will settle it once and for all - Don?t cheat though, buy the EXACT media we recommended -
Using good grade media can guarantee you one thing to an absolute certainty, it surely cannot hurt.
cheers,
Pete

well i figured out what the problem was, you were correct herbsman it was a setting in RecordNow MAX, the tutorial i linked to says to burn the DVD using file system type UDF, there is another setting for UDF and Joliet when i used that i was able to read the DVD video in my PC drive and play it on the XBOX, also i tried the DVDs i burned on 2 TV DVD players and i encountered a problem i believe relates to what ScubaPete was talking about, the dvd player brands i used were a Sanyo and a Philips player, both of them played the DVDs but the Philips Player did a better job, the problem that occured is that both players had a hard time reading the end of the movies it would skip and skip until it would just stop, it would play fine until it would reach about 75 to 85 minutes into the movie, so i guess they were having a problem reading the outside track of the dvd for some reason... i guess i need to try a better quality dvd as mentioned above.... thanks

d-a-v-e: I think you hit it on the head. Poor media is almost always the problem when the problems are at the end of the disc.
