Okay Scuba Pete, herbsman and all you other experts out there...

I'm blasted if I know what I'm doing wrong - or if I should just give up on copying discs under 4.3gig using the DVD Decrypter iso read/write method - followed the guide to the letter.

I've tried this numerous times but always get errors on playback. I've just done a complete re-install of windows and all my programs on a different re-formatted harddrive and it is still happening - and as you know I hate it when I can't conquer the problem.

The disc appears to read fine and there are no errors popping up during the write process - but on playback there are always glitches, pauses and freezes. Even on movies under 4.0gig and on the ritekG04 discs.

Buggered if I know! So please tell me some setting to change, a driver to update or just to forget it.....please?

What make/model burner are you using? Is the firmware up to date?

I'd suggest at slowing the burn speed (and possibly checking DVD Decrypter settings).

Drive is Liteon DVDRW LDW 411S. Firmware is updated with FSOJ - will try again at lower burning speed

Thanks

I'm so excited!!!

Here's the deal - I made sure the firmware on both the DVD-Rom and the DVD-RW were flashed. I updated drivers for everything.....even when to the Nero site and downloaded all and sundry and this is where I believe I solved my little glitches. Unzipped and applied all the stuff - aspi, cleanpack, multimount, neroping, testcd and followed all the instructions. Then came the test run.........

Using Nero Burning Rom I followed the instructions to burn a file I already had stored on the HD. Decided to use one of the crappy discs as I was sick of wasting the good stuff!! Would you believe that I have just done a read error test on LXG which is 4.36GB - and got 100% good read in both drives!!!

No only unheard of to write a file on one of those discs with no read errors - but one of that size is amazing!!!!

I was soooo excited I just had to enable everything on the computer that I had disabled for burning just to let you all know - had to tell someone............am I now game to try a Decrypter iso read/write????? Maybe!!!!

Whew!!! got a bit carried away as usual!

The true purpose of that message didn't really come thru.

For anyone having trouble getting glitch free burns - if you are using Nero - it is well worthwhile taking a visit to their site and tracking down their utilities downloads. One of the programs is a little beaut called cleanpack This pack contains a registry checker and a driver clean tool. The Driver-CleanTool will deactivate drivers that caused problems in Nero in the past. Then to ensure they are deactivated you run the registry checker - both picked up stuff so I am assuming that this has helped with my success!!

Here is the utility page

Glad to hear you cleaned (no pun intended *wink*) things up grogey

Great posting to let all newbies know of such details , it's always great to see ppl testing things themselves (when they're confident enough).

P.S. I tidied up the Nero link in your last post btw , just in case you wondered about that...

No how deep does the Rabitt hole really go..?

You are such a gentleman herbsman. I know I've repeated this information elsewhere but thought anyone following this thread might like to know my amazing news.

Last night I burnt two discs in a row. First with RecordNow and the second using DVD Decrypter ISO Read/Write method. I should mention here that when using the ISO Write last night I paid particular attention to how steady the write speed was on my now 411S@811S drive. Prior to the mod it used to be up and down and all over the place.

Write speed reached 4.0 within 20 secs and stayed steady at that speed for the entire disc - took exactly 11mins 19secs to burn.

I also have a JLMS XJ-HD166S DVD-ROM and which has a DVD read speed of 6x. I used Liteon 166-s Speed/optimize Limit Removed Beta Released (dangerous Brothers) 12x/14x mod on that drive. It now reads up to 14x with no problems at all.

Ripped disc to HD last night 3.49gig in 4.42mins with a max read speed of 12.3x

With the 4.42min read and the 11.19min that meant I was able to copy the whole disc (3.49gig) in approximately 16mins......and got a perfect disc in return!

Hi grogey,
That Nero cleanpack does a good job of fixing things. I had very different problems with Nero than you did and I ended up removing Nero completly, using the cleaning tools and reinstalling. I got into trouble when I started moving some programs around on my hard drive. Nero is happy when it is left alone!!

Wow thats the fastest rip speed I've ever seen. The way you speced out the ROM reminded me of my race bike! "My SB motorsports, EDR Performance racing Suzuki GSXR 1000". Hehe sounds fast!!

Try the link for a "fast lap".

Right I shall deal with various responses in order : )

grogey excellent testing sweetie , I could originally only rip @ a rate of 2.5 with my olde worlde Pioneer 104 ... I put up with that for a while then I was given some advice myself.
I followed that advice and bought a JLMS XJ-HD165H DVD-ROM x16 for £22 , one of the best investments pound for pound I ever made. Although Im just about to update writer to a Pioneer 107 soon , I need to know what it's like having a DVD done in 7-8mins [plus I can now get the 107 for mates rates *wink*]
Oh and as for being a gentleman , one tries !! (lol)

frank I don't know what course/circuit that was but I do NOT like the slight right bend that has a concrete wall all the way down...
A certain bodypart of mine would be winkin' , and I'm not talking about my eyes !: ]

Pete 'you Da man' !!

Jim Jim Jim........

You have two things going on here:
1. (re photo No2) The hard drive where you are intending to store the file aint got enough space on it. If it is your only HD then you need to make some space - or if you have room somewhere else you need to choose an alternative destination for your file at the beginning before you hit the "get to work" button.

2. (re photo No1) There is something wrong with your disk and decrypter has picked up a read error. Couple of things you can do:
a)Clean your disc with Isopropyl Alcohol using outwards strokes from the centre to the outer edge - never round the disc in circles
b)If you've cleaned the disc and still get errors you can keep on hitting the retry button and hope that decrypter eventually gets past the error.
c)Follow this excellent advice from The Lord Of DVDs ScubaPete:
Quote:
Anyhow, to help with those small "Kiddie Scratches" on your DVD's - Please add this to your recipe,

As a final resort to retrieve scratched DVD's with small to medium scratches -

Materials needed:
A soft cotton cloth
Toothpaste w/Borax
Alcohol
Pledge
Orange Juice and Vodka

Method:
START: Place the disc on a firm soft surface. Apply a small amount of toothpaste to a soft cotton cloth and apply to your DVD - Rubbing very firmly in an even stroke from the center outwards towards the edge. Repeat 10 to 15 times. Do this over the entire disc.
When finished, clean the disc thoroughly with a clean cotton cloth moistened with Alcohol, using a firm even rubbing motion from the center outwards towards the edge.
NEXT: Using a clean piece of cotton cloth, apply Pledge to the entire disc in the same manner as the toothpaste was applied above.

Attempt to play disc. Orange Juice and Vodka are to be liberally applied internally . May be repeated as required to recover disc.
If you are an Aussie - then the Pledge equivilent is Mr Sheen. I've personally had wonderful results with both the Vodka method by substituting lemon squash with a dash of lime for the orange juice, and the cleaning method.
