I had everything working perfectly per the 16:9 Divx instructions. But then I had a virus and when I cleaned it (quite a few files were infected) PCcillin said it cleaned the files but who knows how. Anyway I got the following error when I try to open the ...vfapi.avi file in Virtualdub:

Couldn't locate decompressor for format 'vifp' (unknown) VirtualDub requires a Video for Windows (VFW) compatible codec to decompress video. DirectShow codecs, such as those used by Windows Media Player, are not suitable.

I tried re-running the vifpset.bat that comes with VFAPIConv and it shows up if I look in the multimedia devices under control panel but I still get the error. Also when I run the Auxhandler.exe that comes with virtual dub it says "Aviframe frameclient install successful"

Other things I've tried:

1. Deleting all the video codecs from control panel multimedia and reinstalling to the following configuration:
From divx_311alpha.exe
DivX;-) MPEG-4 Video Codec (Fast-Motion)
DivX;-) MPEG-4 Video Codec (Low-Motion)

Divx 4.12

Intel I.263 Video Driver 2.55.016 [I263]
Intel I.263 Video Driver 2.55-016 [i420]

Downloaded from Microsoft wmpcdcsc8.exe
Microsoft MPEG-4 Video Codec
Microsoft MPEG-4 Video Codec
(Listed twice?)

VFCodec [VIFP]

Morgan Multimedia MJPEG 32-bits codec
Morgan Multimedia MJPEG 32-bits codec
(again listed twice?)

2. Rerunning windows 98SE setup.
3. reloading a few system files with system file checker.
4. Scanned registry which reported no errors.
5. Looking through this forum and the Vdub website for answers.

Anyone know of a way I can patch this up? Could something in the registry be pointing to the wrong place or missing entirely? Looking for the quick fix. Not likely??? I guess I could try installing the whole system on my wifes computer but she gets testy if she sees me using it for very long. Reformat my hard drive and install windows from scratch? Any working solution will get a big "Thank You"

Chris

I also reinstalled my video card driver. This added: msyuv [UYVY] to the video codecs in control panel multimedia devices.

You have to register the vfapi codec. There is a bat file called vifpset.bat

Click and it will run a dos window that installs everything needed. If this doesn't work, reboot and try it again.

I had the same problem as you and after one day of not getting it to work within Virtualdub, I returned the next day, ran this bat file and voila!!!!
