At 1st glance I thought this was an encoding problem, but I think it may be a ripping problem.

Some time ago I digitized my Video8 camcorder films using a capture card (WinFast), and then using TMPEGenc & DVD I created a DVD for each tape. The DVDs have played fine - everything in sync

Now I have recently started to encode these DVDs using Xvid, but everytime I do so, the audio is out of sync. I have tried offsetting it, but have found it is not a constant offset - I can get it to sync in one part, but not in another. I get this whether I mux in the original MPA stream (unaltered) or an MP3 version of it.

On examination I found, using either DVD2AVI or vStrip to extract and demux, that the length of the video stream was 4 seconds longer than the MPA audio stream - but on the DVD the audio starts at the start and plays to the last moment. I am beginning to suspect that the audio stream either has one or more gaps in it, (or has a VBR component), which the demux process ignores and consequently I end up with unsynnced audio file.

Anyone know what's happening here ?
