I have a DVD I am trying to backup. It is a buffy DVD. I have been trying to rip it with Easy Divx. It gets part way through then slows down remarkably and after about 20 hours it will finish but it will only do the first episode on disc and doesnt have sound.

I wouldn't recommend you using EasyDivX. I had much problems with DVD-ripping and now I'm using the method descibed in this guide "Copy your DVD into DivX5 format - Guide for 169 anamorphic movies" which is present on this website. Since then I haven't met a DVD I couldn't rip.

Most of the time a multi episode DVD contains "loose episodes" which the program Smartrippers sees as Program Chains... So every program chain is usually one episode. This does not comply to all meDVD's though! Some just have one huge file on which all episodes are present.

When you use Smartripper you can extract every program chain to your HD. With the resulting .VOB files you can now follow the above guide and create the loose episodes as DivX-files!

One thing: TV series are usually NOT in 16:9 format but in 4:3! The only thing you need to change in the guide is the "resizing" in virtuadub e.g. NOT 640x360 but 640x512!

Had Kindred The Embraced #1 - 4 different episodes - had NO problem with SmartRipper. Just pay attention - you will see teh different "chapters" these relate to different episodes (atleast it dod on Kindred) then make multiple little VCD/SVCD and then combine as different MENU items in SONCI on DVDR - and watch away
