Hi,
I have a question. I ripped the movie with Smartripper, then DVD2AVI, then TMPGEnc. When I get to the TMPGEnc part I go to the Source Range to select the pt1 and pt2 of the VCD. I noticed that there is jerking in the people on the screen.
I went to check it this way because after making the VCD I noticed it.
Can anyone tell me why this is happening? The DVD seems to be in good condition. It does not appear in the DVD. HellRaiser Bloodline is the one I am having trouble with.
Any ideas would be appreciated!!!!!!!!!

Donate so we can keep this site running. Every little bit helps !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Randy.

Are you using Region-1 NTSC discs?

Sometimes, for reasons unknown to me, region-1 discs will have it's contents stored as *both* interlaced AND progressive images *at the same time*. This can cause an awful lot of problems.

Sometimes the trailers are stored as progressive images. Then, the main movie is stored as progressive. THEN, there are some gawd-awful discs that like to intersperse the same movie with progressive and interlaced segments!

This may be what has happened in the second part of your vcd conversion.

Right now, as I write this, I'm converting Monty Python's newly remastered "Holy Grail" dvd. It starts as interlaced, then promptly goes into progressive. (As reported by FlaskMpeg). Just a few moments ago, I noticed that about 1-minute's-worth of what I am compressing became combo progressive/interlaced then went back to progressive. I'm not optimistic about this, but I'll have to wait until the movie is completed before I can confirm if that particular portion of the movie will look hopelessly 'jerky' in playback.

These combo progressive/interlaced dvds are a curse. For example, the comedy "Planes, Trains & Automobiles (Steve Martin/John Candy) are combo prog/int, and I wouldn't be able to make a smoothly-flowing vcd (or) divx-avi out of this if you paid me.

If you're Region-2 PAL, you may have better luck.
