hi,
when i burn cds with nero 6.3.1.6 since about a week
the process completes successfully but the cd is not detected by my cd drive
i have a combi dvd/RW reader-writer which has always worked well.
i tried burning audio cds and they work on portabe cd player, burnt data cd (mp3)and it works on portable mp3 cd player.
its only in my own machine tht they arent recognised!

what can i do ?
maybe i installed a program tht messes my aspi but my restore system is disabled since 2 weeks.

if i reactivate it, will i be able to recover?
any other idea?

my o.p. is win ME ( yes i know :< ! )

please help if it happened to you before or know about it!

hi there

i had the same problem when i made a copy of command conquer generals. i didn'T find a solution but using a different brand of cd-r/rw. ive read about cases where certain burner can't read cd's they had burned. maybe we both just have bad luck. i don't think it is caused by aspi drivers (but not sure!)

1. ASPI Version? Make and model of drive?
2. Try this: when you finish burning a cd and the ok box pops up, click it, then click 'discard' and before closing Nero, close the CD drive, then close Nero.... eject the cd and then reinsert it.... it seemed to work for me a couple times.... very wierd ... as if there was some form of post-finalization crap going on..

ok praetor i tried your stuff but it does not make any difference :<

however, i got all info you asked for !

1. ASPI Version? Make and model of drive?
Info from Nero 6.3.1.6
secondary IDE channel - combi RW16x10/DVD (fujitsu & siemens) DMA=on and Autorun=on

(primary channel is generic ide disk type 40
and
st3shark scsi controller is generic dvd rom with autorun on)

ASpi version:
for system aspi : wnaspi32.dll 4.71(001) 28/05/03
apix.vxd same same

for Nero aspi: wnaspi32.dll 2.0.1.59 16/12/03

both are "installed and working properly"

I have heard of people have trouble with ASPI 4.7. You might want to try to downgrade to 4.6. ForceASPI will let you do that - its at:
http://www.afterdawn.com/software/cdr_software/cdr_tools/frcaspi.cfm

One of the programs I use a lot for burning cdrs, burn at once, even says in their FAQ that 4.7 causes a lot of people problems:

There should be 4 files m8 not 2. If you see 2 blanks when you run ASPICHK then your ASPI aint installed completely -- so far it's correct (provided the versions are the same) but its not complete.

I have a link (as well as complete instructions) on my little site: http://www.hazza.dsl.pipex.com/download.htm

Hi
I ll give a shot to version 4.60
but i READ :

"
WARNING: While I have not experienced any problems with ASPI 4.60 some programs may require a particular version. You are reminded that it is your own responsibility to maintain any dependencies of other, third party programs. "

and like i wrote before Nero seems to have its own aspi files installed and working well so how come cds dnt burn?

also i just dnt get why frm one day to another cds stop being detected when i burn them :< (burn over 200 cds before and these are still detected!)

this is out of curiosity

anyway gotta do some revisions now!

thnx for your help again guys!

ok this is it:

i took your aspi pack praetor

ran the install.bat frm the cmd prompt
however, all i had to do is to press any key in the ms-dos prog (in instructions u said: further things to do depending on version)
anyway prog finished , i reboot

run the tests and results dnt really match

both Nero and your aspi checker frm folder "part 2"
say:

wnaspi32.dll 4.60(1021)
winaspi.dll same
apix.vxd same
aspienum.vxd same

(however the aspi checker also mentions win 95- and i have win ME... and Nero aspi version hasnt changed)

however, aspi checker in part 1 says:

apix.vxd 4.6 (1021)
wnaspi32.dll same

but there are only 2 files! What to do?

I tried burn a cd and the cd was still not detected.

thanx

When you run the installer for "part1", it should present you with a menu that tells you to re-type "install" but with some switch at the end .... that is, if you are using XP32bit, then type "install xp32" etc.

Then when you run the installer for part2, all 4 files are overwritten.... but since you state that all 4 files are the same version then .... hmmm ... *thinks*
