When using A-Ray Scanner, it is telling me that the current protection is SecuROM 5.03.03.0040 and that the size of the CD is 364MB. I have a sneaking suspicion that there is more to the disc than that.

I'm not quite sure how to say what brand of writer drive I have, be it a one or two sheep. I don't think that it even has an actual b rand name. It always displays as a bunch of numbers. It is a DVD-R/RW + CD-R/RW combo drive.

The discs that I make are somewhat successful. I can install from them, but when attempting to run after the install (and reboot), the drive spins for a little while, and I am told to insert the original discs instead of a backup.

Do I need to have the program running in the background that I copied with... or maybe the media I am using? I have Nero 6, Alcohol 120% (version 1.4.7.10), Blindwrite 5 (not sure on using that one yet), and Games X Copy (which doesn't seem to work well).

Any help is muchly appreciated, and if there is anything I can do to help you, to help me, let me know and I'll get right on it.

Thank you in advance to those who take time to reply.

Hi,

It would help greatly to know what make/model your burner is. If you're using a pre-built computer from the store you should be able to call the manufacturer and find out what you have.

It looks like you're up against the newest version of SecuRom which means a successful backup is highly dependant on the capabilities of your drive. For SecuRom, I'd suggest getting to know BlindWrite5 and downloading BW5 Tweaker, which allows you more control over the whole process.

What title are you trying to backup? Can you get the image to run in Daemon Tools, and if so, what settings?

I haven't attempted to use the Daemon Tools yet with the image. Totally forgot that I even had that on my system. The images that I am trying to make, are of Hitman Contracts, and Deus Ex:Invisible War.

As for my burner, it's an NEC? I did find a link to the specifications on it.

I don't believe your NEC is going to be up to the task of backing up those titles. I've yet to try my hand at SecuRom 5 but from what I've read it can be problematic even for drives known to be good at defeating protections.

I've had problems with hitman contracts too, the best I can get it to use the exe from the demo, but then the game runs badly and i'm unable to save

Thanatos:
1. The NEC is definitely not up to the task of doing that game :)
2. Madcat (Mk1 or Mk2) is a better Mech :P

Eh? What difference would a different burner make, as long as you have the right software, surely it would work either way?

The software makes use of hardware specific capabilities. If the hardware doesnt support something the software requires, the software cant do its job. :)
