I am confused about Fair Use Laws and the DMCA (Digital Millenium Copyright Act).

If I read the DMCA correctly you are not allowed to backup DVD's and the use of any product to bypass Macrovision is not allowed?

If this is true then why aren't large retailers being sued who carry hardware products that violate the DMCA? Many stores I go into prominently feature these products...

Lastly, I think it is unfair to not allow backup copies. If a DVD that you paid $30 for goes bad after 2 years (and a recent study I read about certain disc media degraded quickly) what recourse do you have? Seems to me this is all about profit and no accountability.
