Movie freezes on playback

Until this week I have NEVER had a problem with playing back a DVD that was copied using XPRESS and DVD-R media. NOW the movie appears to copy just fine - it goes through the normal process and the program indicates it has been burned successfully. However, when you look at the reverse side of the DVD you can visually see how much of the DVD was 'recorded' --about 1/4 of the DVD surface. I have tried 8 different movies, using 3 different brands of DVD-R media, and attempted to play back on my home DVD player, my computer, and a portable DVD player, all with the identical results. The movie looks great in the beginning - but after about 20 minutes it freezes and then stops. Any ideas what could be causing this recent problem???
