Hello.
i want to use my old xbox hardrive in my pc. I have obtained the password for it through EvoX. When i entered the password to unlock it, it said done. Then when i had to do the password for hddisabl.exe, it said that "the device is not ready"? can someone please help me?

8 GB or 10 GB hdd in a pc!!!! buy a new pc,

however if you do REALLY want to use it u need to unlock it (use carpet magic) then you need to re-format it for pc use (u need a pc format program)

Its not for the fact that to use it in my PC, its so i can transfer games with my friends. I wanna use this hardrive for swap things with friends.

I had the same problem with mine. Then I realized that I was using the lock/unlock code for my maxtor 250gig. Oops. A stupid mistake, yes. But perhaps you should double check.

if you have the slayer CD - stick the HD back in the xbox - use config magic or what ever it is called (EEPROM management option)- and unlock the HD whilst it is in the XBOX - all done automatically - no need to enter passwords.

then you can use it in a PC to your hearts content.

I have a similar problem. My Xbox died about 3 months ago and I'm trying to salvage what I can into my PC or whatever. I have heard I have to have this Xbox working to get this HD to unlock- is there a way around it?

yes, there is a way around that. It involves removing the eeprom from the dead mobo and putting it on a working mobo. A lot of messy work for a 10gig hdd. Go here for a how-to: http://www.xbox-scene.com/articles/recover-locked-hd.php

to make an UNLOCKED xbox hdd run on a pc, you dont need a format prog, all you need is a win98 floppy, stick on the hard drive, boot up the floppy, when its finished, type fdisk, create a dos partition, then type format c:

oh yeah, sorry. I guess I didn't specify that that was for a locked hdd only. Much easier if it's already unlocked ;)
but it sounds to me like your problem is that your hdd IS locked. But do you know for sure? You wouldn't have much of a problem if it's already unlocked.
You will have to stick it in another modded xbox though in order to recover all of your info. Using it in your pc requires a reformat, and there goes all of your info if you do.
