Hello!

I have a movie that I want to convert to DivX. According to GSpot:

Video src type: MPEG2-Video
Audio src: MPEG1AudioPayload
Video info boxes, all n.a.
Audio info boxes, all n.a.

To get the size of the video I had to use Media Player
Size: 768x576, i.e. an aspect ratio of 1.33:1

Q: Why could GSpot NOT tell me any more info about this video file such as the size. (n.a.'s above)?

When I play the video file the horizonal aspect is stretched by a factor of 2 in other words it looks like the aspect ratio is 2.66:1. I guess that the Digital Aspect Ratio (DAR) is embedded into the movie file & is being picked up by Media Player so that it correctly displays the movie when playing it.

OK so far, but...

When I encode it using DivX the DAR information is lost & the movie plays back the video with an aspect ratio of 1.33:1 instead of stretched to 2.66:1 & looks horrible & squished up (in the horizontal).

Q:
How do I maintain the DAR from the orignal movie into the new compressed DivX movie?

I can simply double the horizontal size to 768x2 = 1536 when I compress to DivX but is this the way to handle this problem?
