According to GameStop, recent PS3 and Wii hardware shortages will continue for some time, both in store and online.
"I am not exactly sure that I have a total answer, obviously, it is a question that we ask the platform holders," said the company during their recent earnings conference call. "Consequently, I can tell you that we do anticipate that we will be in that situation for the ... [ read the full article ]

Fortunately for consumers (unfortunately for gamestop) you can get both systems from Amazon. I was recently in the market for a second ps3 and called every store (including gamestops) within 2 hours drive to see if they had any in stock. Of course they did not but Amazon seems to have a stockpile of them sitting around. I ordered it before noon and got it the next day. If any of you guys are looking, try there.

Amazon's been out of the PS3 for weeks. When they got some in about two weeks ago they sold out in ten minutes. The only ones on their site right now are from the marketplace asking $438 (new) and $343 (used) for the 250GB and $364 (new) and $303 used for the 120GB.
I got a PS3 from GameStop a few weeks ago because I got lucky, I had called ten GameStop's everyday for two weeks right when they opened (sorry employees!) and landed one right by my house. They only had three and two were being bought right when they opened. Luckily I got there in time to get the last one.

I agree with this. Amazon has been running on LOW supply for a couple of months now and even made it a rule that you can only buy one per household.

I guess I got lucky. I ordered mine and had it the next day. Also it was less than what it would have been had I gotten it in-store and had to pay tax on it.
