I`ve been happily using Praetor`s codec configuration, Until one day ALL Xvid files in all players went mute, or just refused playing.
I get the 2 first seconds with sound and then sound stops and only the video keeps playing.
I Tried: windows media classic, WMP, Powerdvd, Zoom, Bs, Windvd, microdvd and probably some other players whose tags I don`t recall since I suffer from this for 4 months, now.
It happens only with Xvid files and with all Xvid files.
Yes, I tried unistalling and reinstalling all codecs about 20 times by now.
And, I have tried installing other packs of codecs, and especially the Xvid codec, and then I CAN hear sound with Xvid files but it`s volume is so low that it`s really no good at all.
If anyone knows where or how to get a good Xvid audio codec that would solve my problem, I`d be much obliged.
ThanQ

hello.
xvid does not compress audio only video. so there is no xvid audio codec. do you remember anything you did before this calamity happen. if all fails, you can always reformat. :P

good luck

ThanQ, Shiroh, for thus enlightning me. This does render things a bit awkward, and makes me believe that your advice - to reformat, which is, ofcourse both what everyone dislikes and yet, what eventually solves all, would be indeed the only solution.
Thanks again.

You should find out exactly what kind of audio compression your files have. Use G-spot( http://www.headbands.com/gspot/download.html ) to find out. My guess is that you need an AC3 filter. If indeed the file as AC3 audio and you already have an AC3 filter installed you probably just need to adjust the volume settings in the configuration dialog.

hold on, did you ever heard the sound of those files ?
if never, do what teegee adviced. if you once heard them in full befor that means something is conflicting. only then, when you can't find what is conflicting you reformat.

install what you need at the time don't go install happy, there, you will mess up

D'oh... me too.

And im awful at this so if anyone can help further itd be greatly appreciated. I downloaded GSpot and it says my acm codec isnt configured properly, but when it says click on it for further info it just disappears and nothign happens.

So if anyone could tell me how to re-configure my acm thing, and how, would be eternally grateful.

The hearts of men are easily corrupted.

Either install atop of it or uninstall and reinstall the ACM codec :)
