After assistance from this site, I have finally been able to sucessfully burn DVD's several times. My initial problem was Media related, and I have switched from Maxell to Verbatim DVD-R's which work great.

On one backup, The Shawshank Redemtion, the DVD-R plays perfect widescreen in both my DVD-ROM and JVC XV-521 home unit. When I play the same DVD-R in my Samsung P230 player the movie dies not display in widescreen but is stretched out to the top and bottom of the screen.

I tried messing with the settings of the player but it doesn't seem to make a difference. It has a zoom and EZView feature, but both of those are set correctly. The unit is fairly new, and I haven't used it a whole lot as I picked it up as an inexpensive player for the cottage.

I used DVD Decrypter and put the files on my HD. I then used DVDShrink and created an ISO file which was then burned with DVD Decrypter on a Verbatim DVD-R.

I have not had a chance to try another DVD on the Samsung player as of yet, but was wondering if anyone knew of why it did not play the DVD properly. I should mantion that I have played several DVD-RW (Maxell) in the Samsung, all of which played widescreen with no problems. These were created though using DVDXCopy Platinum.

Geeees I honestly dont know, but I may have a suggestion.

Did you produce a "movie only" backup or a "Full backup"?
If you did a "Movie only" I am totally stumped. Sometimes when I play a DVD movie on my system the boot up menu (of the DVD) does not display correctly on my screen, IE the move menu is in 4:3 and it "Stretches". This has lead to the movie not starting up in widescreen.

I am sorry i cant be more help, but this is the best (or worst) i can come up with

Looking for my old AD

It's a full backup, I just usually remove some of the uneeded compenents ie: French Audio w/Shrink.

Weird that DVD-RW doesn't give this problem.

It sounds Like that Particular movie was being read as 4:3 on that one DVD Player but read as 16:9 on the Others...I don"t use those simple Backup Programs to Backup DVD"s so I don"t have these types of problems...

What program do you use? I have DVDXCopy Platinum but I stopped using it a while ago. I also have Nero 6, but only just recently so I haven't experimented with it much.

My DVD Backup Method is Far to complex for many poeple but It allws me to maximize the quality and get more Video on each DVD....
I Rip the DVD with SmartRipper and then I rip the menu"s and Special features seperately and then I encode the Video useing a High Quality Mpeg encoder Called CinemaCraft Encoder SP 2.67, then I import the Ripped Menu"s and the encoded Mpeg video file and the Dolby digital AC3 audio file into a DVD authoring program Called DVD-Lab and then rebuild the DVD"s file structure from scratch and the burn the DVD...
It takes quite a Bit longer but the Quality is Extremely good and I can get from 1 to 4 Full movies on a DVD depending on the DVD Format i decide to use....
When useing this Method to back up DVD"s I have no one to Blame but myself when something goes wrong because I have controll over every aspect of the Back up process..I would only recomend this method to someone with an advanced Knowlege of Digital Video ,Mpeg encodeing and the DVD File structure....Cheers
