It appears that in the iPhone 4.0 OS Apple has decided to remove references to "Google" in the Safari browser, changing the auto-complete button from "Google" to "Search," despite the fact that it will still use the Google search engine.
The move has started the rumor mill, with some reporting that Apple is set to change over to Bing as a default search engine, as a way to get back at ... [ read the full article ]

Bing?
When I added 'Bing' to my twelve other search engines on Firefox, the 'secure' installation also added a Trojan (onto GNU/Linux) that prevented me from using any other search engine. (A moment after selecting any engine, it popped back to 'Bing'.)
I deleted it. In fact, I deleted it by a complete restore from the day before, necessarily treating its installation as that of a Trojan of unknown intent. It may just have been considered a Microsoft enhancement, though.
'Bing' was pretty; but I interpreted its behavior as discouraging me from using GNU/Linux. (How many people perform daily backups?)

when i saw this article a feeling of apprehension creeped through me..but after reading it, i dont mind if apple change the name of the "search" to "Google sells your kids on somalian ebay" as long as theres a convenient button of search that uses the google engine. could give less of a crap about their corporational disputes

I know I am. I have an iPhone 3G and I am seriously considering going with an Android Device next time around. I will wait until the new iPhone is released so I can get one in my hands and see it first hand but Apple seems to be adding some new things in OS 4.0 but their attitude about what they are giving sucks.

Can somebody tell me why Apple should be scared of Google? What does the removal of Google in the Safari search has to do with Apple being scared? Thanks in advance!

There appears to be nothing here.
Apple, I vaguely remember, was going to exclude Java from its SDK and insist on its own 'Objective C' (which is a good language). It takes months to learn a new language well: programmers of Windows & GNU/Linux applications aren't going to take the time to learn a new language (that's of little interest to them).
Google's, Adobe's, & others supposed torts may be only phantasms of testosterone poisoning. Sanity returns, I'm told.

Poor little Steve taking his bat and ball and playing somewhere else. Every time something doesn't go the way he wants it to he sues someone or removes a feature from his Apple products so they can't use other companies' offerings.
Apple makes a "smartphone" so no one else is allowed to make a smartphone apparently. Now the other companies have caught up a little and starting to take a bit of the market, Steve has a hissy fit. He just seems scared of competition. Get over it Steve.
