123 Copy DVD Anyone Heard of this ?

Hi went to Walmart tonight and saw a new DVD software called "123 Copy DVD" The box art looks somewhat like 321 Dvd. Software cost only $19.99, but does not come with a ripper. I went to there web site earlier and was able to download the ripper at no extra charge. I was going to buy this tonight, but my DVD burner died out over the weekend. So i have to wait till next month. Anyways has anybody seen this item? There web site was up earler today but now is down, i am adding a link for a write up that i found THANKS.

It's impossible to tell from the description what they have incorporated into their program but there at least 1/2 dozen or more programs for sale that are nothing more than freeware in a new wrapper.
Knowing what the retail market is, the $19.99 price tag tells us that this company is selling their product at less that $9.00 wholesale. The retail price is wholesale X2 with additional discounts for quantity - probably the distributor?s cost is $6.00 to $6.99 or so -
Continuing along this line, they didn't produce this on their own - the sale price isn?t enough to cover R & D. They are paying for packaging and disc production (less than $1.00 per DVD) so at the outside they are clearing $3.00, maybe $4.00 a unit -
How about it mfg types, care to jump in ??
Somewhere the bottom line is they are using shareware and hooking a program or two together. From their description they could very well be selling a ripper free DVD Shrink :-)
Doe it work well, my guess is yes - but our FREE programs do everything theirs do and in 3 mouse clicks (including ripping -

I read a writeup on this one in MaxPC and it's basically a cheaper version of Xcopy Express.
You're better off getting DVD Shrink (free) and DVD Decrypter both of which will be superior to anything K-Mart sells :)

I agree with Nephilim on this 100%. Don't waste your time or money on this program. From what I hear 123 copy dvd works well with anydvd but it's slow as christmas and takes for ever to burn a dvd. Shrink and Decrypter are much more superior programs. strone

Thanks for your reply's, ScubaPete i have a question you list that you use Nec 4X R/W ND-1300A burner. My last burner was a Nec 1000a that burned about 200 DVD'S then went belly up! 1300a do they still sell it, and do you like it prety well ? Did you have to flash it for up grades ? I don't think that if i had to flash it for upgrades that i would know how to do it. I am looking to get a new in June. THANKS.

bartbull, I don't know if it's still on the market, I haven't had any trouble with it although I always burn +R media, it didn't want to write on cheap -R media.
Yes I did flash it to 1.0A - To flash a burner you just have to know how to read and have an IQ in the double digits. Where people get into trouble is they flash their drive with firmware for another driver. You find the EXACT firmware for your driver and follow directions - it's extremely easy to do and most burners, at some time or another, will need a firmware flash update to keep up with different media on the market -
You can do it my little grasshopper, I believe in you (lol)

I bit the bullet and bought it as its only £12 and i am always up for experimenting,....
What a waste of money that was, the program will not burn for me, it always ends up locking both my computers when trying to burn. The machines have a different DVD writer (one Sony and one BTEC) and the error is consistant in both. Looking into the program a little more is is built around X-oom Movie Clone (the exe's original filename was movie clone.exe) and the burning engine is made by GEAR (you can get a toolkit to intergrate to intergrate media burning into your own software from them).)
It seems they (123 Copy) are selling X-ooms software for them under their own name, i do not believe they are ripping X-ooms work off as they have left in their logos etc and seeing as the program was compiled in VB5 it wouldnt be hard to remove all traces if they were trying to rip someone off.
Dont buy it... its rubbish :D

Do not buy it. It don't work. What a piece of Sh_t. I brought on 5/11 and installed it and it does not work. It will hang your PC and it won't detect your drives at all. I e-mail the support site and have NO REPLY, NO HELP.
PLEASE DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY. If is that good would you think it will cost this cheap? Why not getting it free like DVDshrink.

Huuuumm, probably not quite the rave reviews they were looking for, I wager -
BUT mees-a-thinkin, they don't really care, they're laughing all the way to the bank - Just think of all the money they're saving by not having to staff a tech supportline -

Actually, I too just bought this the other day (last weekend) and have not had a problem yet. I still prefer DVD X Copy tho'...
123 gave me some issues at first but they DO have Tech Support and they actually helped!
Admittedly, it was a lame problem. I have it running on a 2nd PC with an old (as in like ancient) 14" mtr. When the program runs for the first time it wants you to register but, I could no see the bottom of the window...I couldn't cancel or enter the info...
Alt-F4 did the trick. Should have thought of that myself...
Movie Clone has gotten good reviews, although I don't think they do the CSS decyrpition...do they?
Hopefully if 123's sales are good they will provide good hardware support as more and more drives hit the market...

regarding the 123 copydvd program, i got the information from one of the sales guys.
what he was saying is, the product is sold as RF-Ripperfree. But,it can be made NON-RF just by downloading a patch from 123's website-for free!!!!
but, the price went up on their online sales site-$29.99!!!!

I have the Shrink and Decrypter, but although it copies the disk it will not play. I can go into explore and play some of the files, but it will not play the DVD automatically. I've got DVD XCopy with rigger and it does the same thing. WHat am I doing wrong? Am I supposed to add an autoplay file to the disk????

works fine. Also I can watch the movie from my hard drive, but I have to open one of the files. It seems to copy fine to a DVD disk, but will not play on anything, and again I can start the movie by clicking on one of the video files on the newly made disk. Making me nuts!!!!

I checked into123. It really looks a lot like 321Studio's but is even more simple. It now costs $29.95.
There is a download available. As the introduction to the program states - somewhat vaguely- that the ripper is OK outside the US and as -upon registration it asks for your country of origin - it is possible that the download includes the ripper.
I registered as living in Botswana or so... I cannot tell you about the Ripper part because the program completely and repeatedly freezes as soon as I click on any button.
I run WinXP Pro, Pentium4 3.2Ghz, 1G of RAM, plenty of space on 2 HD's and I haven't had ANYTHING freeze on me in ages. It may just not be ready for prime time. Avoid at this time.

Follow-up on 123...You know, this program is REALLY buggy. It freezes, it cannot find your DVD burner, when you exit it and you want to return to it by clicking on it, it states it is already running (but it isn't). You have to reboot very time.
BUT it has promise...I was able to rip a movie in 6 minutes, very FAST... I haven't burned the file with the program because it doesn't recognize my burners.
When you download the program after payment of $29.95 (NO trial version), it requests name, email address, country but there is no activation key...You can then click on a website where you are warned about the illegality of rippers 'in certain countries' but you can download the 'Update with ripper' without further adoo...
I suspect there are compatibility problems with AnyDVD.
Buggy at present BUT interesting. If the bugs are fixed, who knows...

1 more/final update: I used the program on a computer which had no other multimedia software of any kind.
I used a demanding DVD - 'Body Shots' with a total of 7.8 Gb of data: both 'Rated' and 'Unrated' versions with full screen and widescreen options. The program warned me that significant compression would be applied and it recommended I chose 'film only'. I ignored that and the rip & burn took about 90 minutes.
Results were very disappointing. Skin tones were poor with visible 'blocking' and loss of detail...Obvious deterioration of picture - even on 15 inch flat panel computer monitor. I would grade the quality of the compressed copy as 'not as good as Divx'.
To be able to make a valid comparison, I later on compressed the original disc with Decrypter(free) / CCEBasic($57) / DVDRebuilder(free). In 135 minutes I had an excellent copy that I was able to enjoy on a large screen. Dramatically better.
Final analysis: thumbs definitely down on 123 Copy DVD.
They DO offer a ripper... but encoder is very poor.

I tried DVD-5 and a larger one. Now I can't even watch the original movies on my player or writer. I guess I downloaded something that messed that up the player parts. I tried a restore back to a couple of days ago, but it didn't help. So if I completely restore how should I start to get it right this time?

Ok, upon getting it back, try using TMPGEnc to go from AVI to MPEG2, DVD compliant THEN, TMPGEnc DVD Author to go from MPEG to your VOB's, ect. When you have all your files, place them in your VIDEO_TS folder and then it will be ready to fry :D)

Going through the thread and didn't see an answer for you. I've had DVD X Copy Platinum for a while. I got with tech assistance and found out they have a serious problem with software interference. There are a lot of programs on the list including antivirus programs. They never fixed the problem. They said to figure out the problem software and remove it or turn it off. My particular problem was with a cd recording program.

'Somewhat off the subject, but since the patch for 321
was mentioned, a quick quesiton. I have the 321 program
that will rip, but does this patch mentioned above take out the stupid little insert that states this movie was made by 321 studios and is for private use...... That would be nice to have, although I'm using Shrink and Decrypter almost exclusively, fixing to jump into Vstrip soon.
