Subs play in powerdvd but not on standalone..

I authored a dvd with ifoedit, the movie plays in power dvd with the subtitles but when I play in my standalone player (pacific 1002w), the subtitles dont appear. The subtitle button works, says the english subs are playing...but no subs appear, anyone know why this would happen? Thanks in advance.
