Well Ladies and Gents.

OS - Win XP Pro (logged in as Admin)
DVD writing software - latest versions of DVD shrink, DVD decrypt & Nero,
Antivirus - Norton 8.07.17c
DVDr drive - Pioneer DVR-105
DVDR media - white label x1 4.7gb
Firewall - Outpost 2.1.3
Other software - Add aware

I am using the latest versions of Nero and DVD shrink (Also have DVD decrypter installed but that is of little importance as I don't really use it).

Once upon a time everything worked fine and I had backed up DVD's sucessfully. Then there was a harddrive crash which lead me to have to install a new HD and get a whole new installation of XP pro. I have the OS uptodate bar the Service pack 1 updates. Also running Norton Antivirus as above...

As I say, running all of the above it all worked previously... but Now it doesn't... below is the log of the writing sequence... Any help guys?

Edit your post to remove your nero serial # at the beginning of the log.

Search messages for KEY_HARDWARE_ERROR
Did you change your burner's firmware before this started?

You should get all the updates including SP1.
You really should not go anywhere on the Internet except Windows Update until you have SP1 and all critical updates.

Get SP1.
Go to Start > Run > and type in: services.msc
Find Imapi burning in the list.
Right click, properties, stop, disable.
Restart.

Black holes are where God divided by zero...

Have now disabled Imapi and edited my post, sorry didn't even notice it like.

The problem with Service pack 1 is the fact I am on a dial up... which disconnected every two hours. I can never download it in time before it disconnected and resets me download to the begining again.

Will obtain SP1 from a mate in which case... but which begs the question why did it work in the first place without SP1?

Oh and about the firmware, after the problems started to occur I updated the firmware of the drive incase that was the issue.... made no difference.

I notice your DVD-ROM drive has DMA Off.
DMA help.

http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/device/storage/IDE-DMA.mspx

A KEY_HARDWARE_ERROR can have many reasons.
Defective burner or a bad firmware flash.
Defective cables.
Bad media.
Dirty laser lens. Use a cleaning disc.
