Discs won't play in Panasonic DMR-E80H

I just bought this unit. Recording to the hard drive works fine. However, every disc I attempt to play including DVD-RAM, DVD-R, and CD-R, results in this message: NO READ. These formats are all supported by this unit. The owner's manual says this means the disc is dirty or damaged. However, these are new discs which play just fine in other players. Any help would be appreciated.
