I'm trying to encode some dvd's to avi's using flaskmpg. It sets it to 720x480, but when that is played back, its stretched verticly. What should the standard res be for a 16:9 movie?

i think it all depends. There are several different aspect ratio's. I think virtual dub is the best way of encoding a movie. You can set everything. At this site it has a section that talks about what res it should be for each aspect ratio. Check it out. http://www.nanomessiah.com/dvd-backup/dvd-to-xvid.html
That is the tutorial I use. I gives pictures and a complete explanation. Use it, I get awesome results with it.
