Yes I am a newbie. I followed the guide "DVD to VCD with SmartRipper, DVD2AVI and TMPGEnc" and everything works ok, except there is no audio in the final Mpeg-1 file. The audio format reported by DVD2AVI is "Linear PCM". The DVD was made on a Mac using Final Cut Pro 3 by a friend. What am I doing wrong?

Do you mean I have to go back to the person who made the original DVD and get him to ensure the audio is "Layer-2 44100kz 224kbit/sec" in order to get the audio extracted by DVD2AVI?

I had the same problem... no audio after using TMPGEnc.
I solved it increasing the volume of the encoding process. To do it just go to Setting/Audio Tab/Setting and tick "Change Volume" and use 200%, click OK, and make sure "Use Audio Edit" is ticked.
Encode again. To avoid waiting for hours, just encode the beginning of the movie, stop the encoding and run the resulting mpg file in Windows Media Player. If you got sound, this is the way to go. Just encode the full movie using the same settings. Hope this helps.

OK, figured it out. The problem is before TMPGenc, it lies with DVD2AVI. The default setting for "Audio Output Method" is "Demux all tracks". When I changed this to "Decode to Wav" it then works perfectly. Thanks for your help.
