WWDC 2010: Steve Jobs unveils iPhone 4

Steve Jobs moved on from discussing the Apple App Store to the company's iPhone products. According to Jobs, iPhone now has 28 percent of US smartphone market, behind RIM at 35 percent. In terms of mobile web browsing, the iPhone commands a 58 percent market share.

interested in phone, but hate drop calls from ATT, i already order my HTC EVO 4g from Dell with Sprint, sorry Apple, its your fault that you staying with ATT.

well i will say this, aesthetically it looks much better than the aging iphone design weve had last 3 years..never owned an iphone. maybe this one is finally worth the 199$..and the good thing for us international users,though i can only speak for myself, is we dont have limitations that originate from the carrier :)
nice for once not to be suprised by apple.
the one thing i find to be missing from the article is just what is how fast is apple's A$ proccessor?

I am really not an apple fan-boy. More of an iPhone fan-boy. I have the first two models. Never saw much point in getting the 3GS. I will say this about the 4. Must.Buy.
Does it support 4g networks?

If its the same as the iPad A4, then its 1GHz IIRC, but I don't think it was mentioned at the keynote, either that or I missed it on the feed while I was typing out notes.

What I like about this iPhone is the thinness, high resolution screen, multitasking, front camera (which I'll never use anyways) 802.11n, good battery life, stronger antenna.
Still many issues for me that stops me from buying this phone: Micro-SD slot: none, Flash:None, Camera: Outdated, Front design:still the same, Processor: already outdated (new snapdragons/moorestown). Still overprices (If those are the prices for a 3yr contract, then I'm guessing a no contract for this phone is still going to be expensive as hell.) If these weren't an issue, I would actually consider buying an iPhone.
I can't believe I'm saying this, but good job Apple, this is their only iPhone that I like, but they are still going to have some serious competition with new phones coming out this year such as HTC HD3, HTC Scorpion, Samsung Omnia 3, the iPhone still can't even come compete with these phones when it comes to performance and features. Good job Apple, but still not good enough for me.

In Canada, a 3yr contract for a 3GS (16&32GB) is $199-$299. No contract (unlocked) is $699-799. So most likely this phone is still going to be sold at a high (overpriced) price.

Trust me...............Verizon has just as many if not MORE dropped calls. I had them for years, my neighbor has them and his wife and a few of his friends have Verizon with the same problems. You people are all diluting yourselves if you think the cellular grass is greener on the other side (other side being Verizon). Coupled with an equal share of dropped calls comes a vindictive, arrogant and shady company that Verizon is. So switch........You'll learn. AT&T is bigger with faster web surfing and the ability to surf and talk at the same time.
As for dropped calls.....I'm in Chicago where dropped calls due to lagging service is less than any other city.

yea, few of my friends has problems and few of my friends don't, but i'm not going with Verizon, i'm going with sprint, big different. Plus HTC EVO 4 are already way pass the Iphone 4g spcs.

It is a vast improvement over the old iPhone, but ask yourself this...if this was an android phone with the same specs, would anyone care? I doubt it...if it was an Android phone with these specs everyone would be calling it a budget phone...other than the price.
At this point, even if it was the world's greatest phone, it is still under the thumb of a madman...I want flash, I want porn, I want free apps that are better than the pay ones.
Oh, from the article:
"The phone supports 802.11n wireless networking and quad-band HSPDPA/HSUPA networking which theoretically can support 7.2Mb/s download and 5.8Mb/s upload. Jobs joked that these figures are theoretical because carriers don't support them just yet."
-We all knew that it did not have 4G...but it seems it does not even have full 3G support, as 3G "theoretically" supports 14.0 down/5.8 up. I wonder why he would call attention to this, unless he was trying to make newbies think that it was a 4G phone.

I will have one but I have a couple of gripes.
No 4G? Why not? All new phones have this but not the iPhone. Kind of Dumb. I guess this will be added to the iPhone 4G when its released. Reason to get people to upgrade again. Annoying.
No flash support but this is a Steve Jobs "cry baby" issue. I'm sure the iPhone could handle it just fine. Steve Jobs is an evil jackoff.
A bigger screen would be nice. Not necessary but nice. Same with the Micro SD slot.
Dropped calls happen with every carrier. Verizon is no better than AT&T. The wife has both AT&T and Verizon and she has an equal amount of dropped calls just in different places. It all depends on where you live. Just a side note... AT&T is upgrading nicely in my area.
I also don't see the necessity of 4G. At least right now. Its out there so I would like to have it in a phone this expensive but really, 3G seems plenty fast for what I do.
Just my 2 cents.

its an Iphone it does the same shit the other 3 did. the only tech that might have been improved is the OS.
you really have to hand it to Jobs he can take ancient hardware and sell it for 100x its worth.

The HTC Evo is a WiMax phone. Sprint buys WiMax service from Clearwire, and then Sprint sells it as 4G...it is false advertising...but it seems that false advertising is the industry standard, so no one cares. Sure, sprint "4G" is faster than sprint "3G"...but it still isn't close to the theoretical speeds of 3G. If they really wanted to improve speeds, they would not use WiMax...or at least not clearwire's super-slow WiMax.
Here is a hint...
If it is not at least 100mbps while moving and 1000mbps while stationary, it is not 4G, it is "pre 4G" or "3.9G".
Imagine if you bought a generic 2GB MP3 player and sold it as a 64GB iPod touch, and you did it with a contract so you could cheat the same person 23 more times; that is basically what they are doing...selling something that is (AT MOST) 6mbps, with a name that implies (AT LEAST) 100mbps...DON'T FALL FOR CORPORATE LIES, DON'T BELIEVE ANYTHING THEY TELL YOU! THEY RUN BLATANT LIES ON TV, IN PRINT, ON THE BOX, EVEN IN THE CONTRACT, AND NEITHER THE COURTS NOR THE FCC WILL DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT.

Without downloading large files (which most people dont do on a mobile network) Why do we need faster than 3g anyway, anything faster that 1mbps is more then fast enough for a mobile device so why do people care? You wont notice a speed increase at all

Thank you for enlightening me. I'm not afraid to admit I didn't know how 4G actually works. But at the same time you kind of saying that Apple is actually being honest and not advertising the speed as 4G but as something else. That's strange in itself.

So if I have a 3GS and upgrade to iOS4 when it releases, what functionality won't I have that the iPhone 4 does? (except the obvious 5MP camera, front facing camera and higher res screen)

honestly, this phones is sexful!
the screen and its res has me drooling as does the design.
its a shaem i cant stand the OS.
as a geek, the hardware makes me jizz, but the software makes me cry. bang on webos onto this and you havea near perfect phone, bar screen size and physical kb.

umm i think people would care, have you not seen the hype over the nexus 1, the droid incredible, the desire, the evo?
BTW if you check MOST 3G phones with HSDPA support they all say 7.2 max.... this is no where near the first, and doubtfully the last phone to it it.
and dude, i find every post of yours about phones, if its not licking the arse of android is VERY negative from you. why is this?
