Microsoft expects to sell 5 million Project Natals by end of the year

Microsoft has said they expect to sell "at least" 5 million Project Natal systems by the end of year, a large number for the device which has not even gotten its official name yet. The expectations come from two "insider sources" cited by the WSJ. The insiders would not provide the exact launch date (which has been rumored for late October) but did note that the pricing model was "aggressive." ... [ read the full article ]

I think they might sell 5 million...they sold about 40 million consoles world-wide; 5 million is only one in eight...plus, they will probably get more than a few sales from people buying it because they are tired of wIIfit. Just because something is a terrible idea, that does not mean that people will avoid it; just look at the iPad sales.

even though i pretty much agree with you-especially with the ipad remark, I think the biggest issue for them would be pricing and attach rates. the device may cost 160$ (just a wild estimate) but its not uncommon for devices such as this to get price cuts even after 2-4 to make the most of the non tech-savvy saps that buy into new technology no matter how unreasonable the pricing is and then after they lower the price to a more convenient price point other users,probably alot more than the first adopters are going to get it. so as i said,it all depends on microsoft really.
