Had an lg 4040b but bought this one. Have upped to 101a firmware.
Did not come with manual; US site has none for d/l.
wondering if lg recommends same media brands?
Or, are 4040b posts ref media valid for this drive?

I have the 4081-B and I use the newest DVD Shrink version with a little program called Copy To DVD. Check http://www.copytocd.com for a copy. I edit with Shrink and burn with Copy and play it on nearly everything going. I'm in Canada so we can get no name DVD-R and DVD+R with the metal azo recording layer and they burn great, usually 9 out of 10 good burns. They go for about $45 for a stack of 100 or if you have buddies burning you can get 500 for $159 plus tax.
It seems to work out that you have to get the right combination of equipment, software and patience and away you go. Hope that helps a little.
